And those different responses are not an excuse. But that is what many MHA fans want to use it as. "Oh, he was abused by his hero dad so it isn't his fault he's killed 30+ people."

I agree, that's a dumb justification. But it sounds like OP is opposed to any kind of redemption arc at all? Or am I reading that right?
