"the hero is actually the villain's child" a) was already done and done better in the same series with as little development and b) did nothing interesting for anyone's characterization, and that's two strikes too many for me. but i do think the concept itself was interesting, especially if they had kept the antagonism between rey and ben solo/kylo ren, so at least you get the parallel of "the villain is the hero's child". just realizing that they had the character just switch the vowel placement in his name lmao.
