i never remember which is which (not for lack of trying, it's just not a pattern that sticks with me), but i also don't know why people who know they don't know don't just avoid it. you can get a lot of character information in the way a person places an object or themselves without using lie or lay.

anyway weary agreement from a person who has become wary of such confusions in fic.
