"Would it be possible for you to link to secrets marked as spoilers (like the way you do for porn secrets), instead of just labelling them as spoilers right above the image? By the time you see the label, you've already seen the image and then it's too late. :("

[Poll #1444305]

Suggested:
- increase space between spoiler warning and secret
- move all spoilery secrets to the end of the post
- make spoiler warning text more noticeable (big and red?)

The general warning at the start of each post is enough...

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thing is, if the poster of the secret doesn't say THERE'S A SPOILER IN THIS SECRET, changing it would be pointless.

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the non-linking. For me I like the convenience of scrolling I always just skip any secret that is linked anyway so idk. But again there is the general warning and the text warning so it feels like, as someone said, so much hand-holding.

Plus then I feel like people who don't say something is a spoiler will get bitched out in comments for ruining a spoiler. Where we having everything could potentially be a spoiler atm I feel like most people just accept the premise, trying to specify may end up complicating things.

Something else?

Put all the spoiler related ones at the end of the post and between the regular and spoilery ones put in LARGE letters "THE REST OF THESE CONTAIN SPOILERS" or something similar?

Keep warning text

My feeling is if someone is that interested in fandom secrets and has been made aware in general when they decided to watch the community that there might be spoiler in then they really should be up to them as well to take a measure of their own responsibility and to make their own decisions about how much risk they want to take of seeing them.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If they start being linked, I'm going to have to start submitting major spoiler secrets without labeling them as spoilers, just to hit the whiners over the head.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe some people would and I would hardly blame them for wanting to. It's just too much.

Meh, I think you're kind of asking to be spoiled by coming HERE on a regular basis. I think the text warnings are fine. People can always write SPOILER on the top of the secret too. As someone said, if one scrolls down too fast, well, you can't really help that.

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
even if you link the secrets that were clearly marked as having spoilers you can be sure that some person will get spoiled by an unmarked secret anyway, so I don't really see how that can be fixed - you already get warned above the cut.

like a few others have said, posting them at the end seems fair, although some idiot would still complain about being spoiled for something :/

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a huge spoilerphobe, but I come into fandomsecrets knowing there could be spoilers. I like the idea of perhaps enhancing the text, but, migod, if you try to link the pictures to everything that's a spoiler, there will be no pictures left, since some people consider just about everything to be a spoiler. And if you try to bend over backwards to spare people spoilers, you're going to get overrun with arguments about what constitutes a spoiler, and complaints, and, just, oh, don't go that route. I like that fandomsecrets warns everyone comin' in that HERE BE SPOILERS AND PORN and for the most part leaves it at that.

[identity profile] dbzmerciter2005.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all for linking or increasing the space.

[personal profile] zumbeh 2009-08-15 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really care when it comes to spoilers, considering some of the fandoms I'm not into or have never thought about watching, like House to name one. [Even though I've seen an episode or two due to being over at a friend's. Other than that I've never gone out of my way to really watch it.]

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone gets warned for spoilers and NSFW at the top of each post. While I'm all for moving spoilers to the end of the post, and/or maybe making the spoiler warning bigger or shinier, linking seems to defeat the point of having a big ol' F!S post instead of posting all the secrets individually. (FWIW, I feel the same way about the porn, but I understand that it's genuinely triggery for some folks.)

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the one who submitted the question, and my reason for asking is this:

I think the small SPOILER labels are useless, so either a) have no labels and just go with the "MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS" one-time warning, or b) link to the secrets that their own makers have identified as being spoilery.

Otherwise, like I said, I see the labels at the same time I see the image (and it's not a matter of "reading too quickly," that's just the way my eyes take in the information in one chunk) and the labels are moot.

Anyway, I'm glad this is open for discussion, as this is just my two cents.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
First, there's a spoiler warning on the comm. I know I'm taking my chances.

Second, even though you are saying that you only say there are spoilers if the submitter says there are spoilers, I think linking them increases your own responsibility for not spoiling people. And that gets really wanky really quickly because people have so many different levels of feeling spoiled.

I say, stay away from the entire thing, and have F!S just be a spoilery space. It's a no-win sitch otherwise, it seems to me.

[identity profile] lalachoy.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This reminds me of that time there was this picture of a spider in a secret and somebody got upset that there was no warnings for the spider because they hated spiders. Anybody else remember that?

Anyway, on topic.

There's already a warning, you already warn for spoilers for the secret if the submitter says they are. I don't think there is a reason to do anymore. I don't think anymore needs to be done.

I don't care, really. If I have to click, I will, but I just never get the big deal about spoilers. I just feel that if spoilers ruin the story for you, the story wasn't very good in the first place. It's not the destination that matters, it's how you get there, sort of thing.

[identity profile] bououou.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Part of my fun reading FS is that I never know what to expect! Porn? Spoilers? Tentacles? Why not?

Keep it the way it is. Element of surprise +++

[identity profile] lionessvalenti.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of for the idea of moving the spoilery secrets to the end of the post. It seems like the middle-ground between linking (which I'm not a fan of) and putting a warning right above it.

[identity profile] winnable.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

[identity profile] typhlogirl.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
This.

[identity profile] benelie.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the second suggestion:
- move all spoilery secrets to the end of the post

[identity profile] bridget-x-alena.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, after reading some of the other comments, moving spoiler-y secrets to the end of the post may be a better idea. Clicking on everything that could be considered a spoiler might get rather tiresome, and it'd be easier to avoid the spoiler-y ones if they're all lumped together at the end.

Maybe a bit of a warning, but I think that if spoilers bother you that much, you shouldn't be reading [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets.

[identity profile] uozlulu.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see what the big deal is. It's not that hard to link them? Like you could put them with the main displayed secrets instead of numbering them at the bottom and just less html coding.

(Anonymous) 2009-08-15 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
HOW WOULD THIS EVEN WORK? ARE THE MODS SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT SPOILERS ARE FOR EVERY SHOW? HOW ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED A SHOW THEY DON'T WANT SPOILERS COME TO FANDOMSECRETS AFTER THEY WATCH? FFS.
