a lot of the love in His Dark Materials called to me. Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter deciding to sacrifice themselves for Lyra by dragging Metatron into the Abyss, after royally traumatizing her and fucking up her entire life like the complete neglectful abusive assholes they were, was the height of romance for me.

His Dark Materials knew how to do romance right. Looking back, both Asriel/Marisa and Lyra/Will were *really* formative for my fandom preferences lol.
