I kind of miss the Superwholock era of fandom. I was only in one of the three relevant fandoms at the time, but I found the whole thing a big, fun, silly, good time. I loved the spirit of absurdity and experimental playfulness that spawned so many fun fanworks during that era.

I just generally feel like fandom as a whole derives a lot of energy and passionate spirit from having a handful of really massive active fandoms. And seeing massive fandoms share with each other and be fannish together was extra fun.

Yes, the enormity of massive fandoms basically grantees that when they inevitably generate wank, said wank will also be oversized. But IMO it's totally worth it for the amount of collective nerdy zeal they help generate and perpetuate.

No you don't. What you have is Stockholm syndrome. It is alright, with therapy you can be cured.

Your negative experience wasn't universal. Many of us had a great time in that era of fandom. Sorry you didn't.

NAYRT - I was in a similarly messy fandom, and I know what you mean. I miss that too.

I just miss when the allconsuming fandoms on the early internet were Ranma/Sailor Moon/Tenchi.

I hate these tit-for-tat secrets, especially when they can't even be arsed to wait a week. Someone criticised something, so now you must right great wrongs by firing back even though before today you didn't give a damn. Gimme a break.

AYRT - This community needs secrets. Often other people's secrets cause me to think of secrets of my own so I add them to the secret maker's queue (thanks guys). The fact that you read spite or reactivity or a desire to "right wrongs" into it is 100% a you thing, I promise. There is none of that here.

Or they read that and it sparked a thought theyve been ruminating on.

NAYRT - your seeming inability to fathom that petty spite is not a motivating factor for something so innocuous says a lot more about you than it does about AYRT, or literally anyone who posts a secret inspired by another secret.

I just wish they'd wait until the secret is posted to comment, myself. *shrug*

1. It's unlikely they will be posted on the same day regardless. You're seriously bothered someone posted too close to another related comment in the queue?

2. Even if they get posted on the same day, so what? It will likely promote a more lively debate, which is completely fine and may even be good for the comm overall.

3. I post my secrets as soon after thinking of them as I can because I have shit to do. Hanging around waiting for the "right time" to post a fandom secret is not on my list of things to spend mental energy on.
