Does anyone know of any good fics that mix EU and canon? Like sequel characters but EU storyline, or EU characters in the sequel storylines, or whatever. Just a mix of both.

Doesn't have to be sequel/post ROTJ era either. Would be happy with stuff set during OT or before too.

Microwave/Air Fryer Meals

(Anonymous) 2024-06-28 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I need food that requires the bare minimum of cooking that I can keep in the freezer or pantry for when I can't muster up any energy. I've got frozen veges (with sauce), mac and cheese, ramen, chips/salsa, chicken nuggets, frozen pizza, french fries, Zatarain's alfredo chicken. What else do you all like?

Single serve (meat) pies and quiche, bao (the stuffed ones - used to get red bean, lotus paste, several others), samosas and spring rolls. Most of these are available at the local supermarket, but the bao I get from the local Chinese grocer.

Bao come in two sizes here - large are four in a bag and small are nine. I used to poke a hole in the bag and put the whole lot in the microwave and steam in the bag. If you are only doing some of the bag, I would put a cover over them.

I like those frozen fish fingers from childhood with tartar sauce as a comfort/nostalgia food. These days, a lot of grocery stores have frozen ravioli and/or meatballs that can be paired with a jarred sauce, frozen potstickers, stir-fry kits that have the meat (usually something chicken nugget like) and sauce and just need heating up, frozen eggrolls to go with it, frozen burritos, etc.

I'm not a fish fingers/sticks fan but decent breaded fried frozen fish is a natural for air fryers (assuming, of course, you like seafood). Other fried seafood too-- coconut shrimp is a treat.

Queer Gospel, a multi-fandom vid posted recently I enjoyed muchly.

And on the theme of Pride, Straightening Up the House is a fantastic look at all the queer comics characters the MCU swept under the rug.

LF floor mattress recs

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2024-06-28 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Due to family shit, I want to get a storable floor mattress in case my nephew needs to spend the night at my house. Don't want an air mattress (they always seem to get a hole). Currently looking at Japanese style futons or 'foldable mattresses' (like this https://a.co/d/04m5Vn7n). Anyone have experience with either?

I don't have experience with that specific folding mattress, but I will say that memory foam is relatively cheap and durable. Great so long as you're okay with a firm mattress.

Anything will be an improvement over floor blankets. I'll need to see if I can find a storable one for when it is not in use.

I've been sleeping on one of these IKEA folding mattresses for years, and my 33-year-old body is starting to get sick of it, but I *do* like it and haven't minded it up until recently!!

I'll have to see if I could get it delivered to my sister since ikea won't deliver to my town. 😭

Late reply, but I have those tri-fold mattresses (not the brand you linked nor the IKEA downthread, just some brand sold here) and they are very handy for overnight guests! Mine have colorful zipper covers to keep them as "cube" when not in use. I have two, one is older and its foam has gotten softer, but I have slept on it and it did not destroy my back immediatly, yet.
