I was past the target age when TENG was in theatre but I still went to that one instead of TRTED bc Dreamworks wasn't in my peripheral at the time. I regretted it later bc TRTED is arguably the more charismatic of the movies and as a fan of The Lion King you would've thought that would be on my radar due to Sir Elton being the composer.

I never really got the whole colonisation thing until later in life as an educated adult but that's probably also the reason why I enjoyed Pocahontas as a kid.

Look up the making of TRTED to see some fun stuff of the actors working together.

I have this problem with songs in Tarzan, The Lion King, and El Dorado where the singer isn't a character in the movie. It just feels incongruous. The songs can be stunning (hell, the Tarzan soundtrack is actually genius) but some random asshole singing over the animation just takes me out of it. Beauty and the Beast could have used Celine Dion for the title track, but it would never have worked anywhere as well as hearing it from Mrs. Potts.

Totally agree. Phil Collins narrating the innermost workings of the characters' hearts just does not work, imo.

I'd argue that Emperor's New Groove is funnier, but yeah, neither are great for music.

I do love Somewhere Out of the Blue from El Dorado, though. It has no relevence to the film and I'm not sure when it even plays within it, but I remember the film clip featured Elton John wandering around the village, so I assume it's in there somewhere. So, not a good "movie song", just a good song.

I love "somewhere out of the blue" too! Specially the video with animated Elton.

SA: The emperor's new groove is more a movie to enjoy for the memes than the music.

I also missed both at the time. I’ve tried to watch as an adult but neither one could hold my attention. Hocus Pocus is the same, which I think gets referenced online even more than either of these.

Thanks for turning my comment into a secret, OP!

Okay?
