One of the things that makes me roll my eyes and backbutton out of a fic is casual weed use, especially when the canon media isn't American. I'm not particularly against weed itself (stinky as it is, so is cheese and I'm a fan of that!).

The only way I can describe it is "ritualistic" in a way that doesn't make sense. Why would the character act like an American college student with weed, and nothing else in their life?

I backbutton out of fic mentioning weed use immediately. I have really bad experiences with stoners, one of them being a close relative, and while I'm all for legalising it, I hate how so many stoners act like it's this flawless, harmless fun stuff that never does any harm when it's not that simple/easy. And in a lot of cases it's just massively OOC to have characters smoke weed (in other cases it's not but I still don't like it).
