Hard agree about understating and having more variety of clothing types. I bought a Cameo way back when just to start making my own fannish clothing and later learned machine embroidery. Now I’m learning how to make my own machine embroidery designs because I usually can’t find exactly what I want. But it would be so much easier (and cheaper) to just buy official merch.

we have had a custom embroidery machine for 15 years for cosplay purposes, it's SO HARD to translate it to merchlike things. A patch to sew onto something, sure, but even tiny polo logos like old school Alligator are super hard to make look nice on a home machine. Industrial machines handle knits better and most polos are knit; any other shirtlike product has to be a woven or it'll look absolutely shite. size also matters - I can't do logos under 1" on, say, a face mask or pocket.

AYRT Look into getting a Stellaire or similar if you want to stick with a flatbed. But a mutineedle is the best. And if you get Mighty Hoops or similar, knits are no problem.

For small designs, you need to use a smaller needle. And make sure you’re using a design created by someone who knows what they’re doing. Instead of buying off Etsy, reach out to digitizers you know and trust and request a custom design. It’s worth it!

drooling; a multineedle is our next step up once we finallly decide we need to trade up to the next best.

you're absolutely right, though. we digitize ourselves so we can test and fiddle without wasting fabric and thread. A trusted digitizer is worth their weight in gold! I need to solicit one who can play backup when we don't have the time to do it ourselves.

*nods* I understand, that's how I feel about tank tops. The necklines of most fandom t-shirts tend to be much too high for my comfort (I cannot STAND to have stuff rub up against my neck, because autism lol), and anyway, here in Florida tank tops are generally more practical than anything with sleeves.

Ha! I just wrote a reply about hating having stuff around my neck! No autism here, just a personal preference or whatever.

Oh many, yes. I've found some nice t-shirts that aren't too high at the neck. But it can be difficult.

Jacksfilms tried this several years ago with his line of Klondike merch. It actually looked pretty nifty, but it didn't sell (and likely cost more than typical merch shirts). I regret not buying it, but I didn't find out about it until a few months after the fact.

I get this

For me, I would like more v-necks. I cannot stand stuff around my neck and v-neck seems to be the only style that hangs right. It is oddly hard to find with fan merch.

Or any kind of stylish clothes other than "unisex" (aka mens) baggy tees.

Same!
Round high-neck doesn't suit me AT ALL. I wear V-necks or polo. But it's pretty difficult to find fandom or even just fun print t-shirts in that styles.

Yes! V-necks and henleys in women's cuts, please!

100% this. I can't stand things around my neck. My nan used to joke that I must have been hung in a previous life lol

Ha! I like your Nan's sense of humor.

Same, but in my case it's because I have a big surgical scar there in this life, no need to look back!

just print the image.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
what's not to understand? Order a polo shirt with a print from the Media you wish from one of the many sites. Send them JPG and get whatever you want. Duh.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That is not what you said. You said print an image. Having a printed copy of an image is a bizarre thing to suggest.

Maybe next time finish your actual thought and explain instead of throwing out a useless fragment. Duh.

you're also missing 1000000x context for how to what the what.

can you go to a website like redbubble, spoonflower, etc and get a custom dye sub art print that you can either sew into or onto a garment? yes. Will it look nice? LMFAO NO. I've both worked at a dye sublimation shop and bought from Spoonflower for over a decade, and the technology is finally small-scale at a sacrifice to quality. It'll look like shit, fade or shred after one washing, and you have to be ethically down with stealing art. Then again buying bootlegged art from Teefury et al seems to be kosher these days, so maybe the piracy angle isn't a deterrent.

if you're a talented artist and can upload your own custom art to Society6 or Redbubble and make your own shirt for your own self, kudos! If not, you're probably bootlegging to a degree be it small or huge.

The way this is written made me think you meant just gluing a piece of paper to some clothing lol.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
you can glue a print and also draw on clothes as a DIY. not sure how durable.

I would just take some fabric paint and scrawl "StaR wARs" on a hoodie.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though I'm definitely guilty of having a silly amount of fandom t-shirts, I agree whole heartedly with this. The only time I see alternatives to fandom shirts are usually by fandom crafters, like at conventions where I see dresses with specialized prints or embroidery on clothing.

i do like that cr has a variety of stuff, and frankly i do think music artists should be able to manage it (yes i know there's hats but still).
