Anyone remember that Music From the Rainforest album that Borders used to sell? Or just remember Borders?

When Borders shut down nationwide, the one at my local mall had a huge closing-out sale. I got SO much heavily discounted manga

I used to work next door to a Borders. I remember their very last day open after my shift I went next door and bought so much discounted stuff, they still had a lot of manga and CDs left. It was really bittersweet though because I normally spent all my breaks there, the employee at the cafe always knew my order and would heat up a bagel for me while I was waiting in line, and I used to get to work early so I could stop at the bookstore (one of the employees once joked they owed me a paycheck). I ended up changing jobs shortly afterward into the field I'm currently still in so Borders closing always feels like a very specific end of an era for me.

I worked at Borders for a hot three months. That first time working Xmas in retail destroyed my faith in humanity and my interest in holidays in one fell swoop.

I’m the anon from below who can’t remember this trend but in this comment explains it. Borders was a late 90s thing and all the woo woo and nature fads I remember came from Natural Wonders. Gregorian chant CDs, rainforest, beach, and thunderstorm CDs, MC Escher shirts, tie dye everything, wind chimes, home beer brewing kits, and tarot cards.

I fondly remember visiting Borders with my book crazed family.

Good times.
