If you go to the National Zoo in Washington DC you can still visit the Amazonia exhibit that was built at the height of that craze! (and has barely changed since, nostalgia central if you are the right age. And a bit sad if not.)

I was just today thinking about those tshirt sales we would do in school where profits were supposed to help the Amazon. All the shirts had animal/rainforest related designs.

I definitely remember being obsessed with rain forests when I was a kid in the 90s, both Amazon and Madagascar, and I had books about them. I think what first got me into it was Fern Gully: The Last Rain Forest. Then the original Jurassic Park reinforced it.

i think it was bc of a hard environmentalism push? was a child in the 90s but i remember a lot of stuff about saving the amazon that kinda got buried in the 24/7 news cycle

I love how they did it on Interview With the Vampire. The title card with "The role of Claudia will now be played by Delainey Hayles." It was so simple and so period.

Uncle Iroh was recast. Qrow was recast. Pickles in Bojack Horseman was recast between seasons five and six. The entire main cast in Persona 3 was recast for the remake, even though the original cast are still working. Rachel Dawes was recast from Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal. I know no one watched it, but Mat Cauthon was recast in The Wheel Of Time. Nadia was recast for season two of Shadow and Bone. Ryan in The Boys was recast after one episode.

I think you mean that sometimes the creative decision is made not to recast. I'm not sure why you've decided it never ever happens out of some sort of moral allergy.

Guys, we gotta stop pretending there is this big divide between internet fandom and the rest of our lives like we had in the old days. The world doesn't work like that no more. Terminally online is just regular online now, whether that is politics or fanfics. It is just life now. Kids these days[TM] don't have that difference between your fanfic, and a regular ebook. They don't even call them ebooks, it is all just writing. Your fanfic is just another form or regular old writing. In many ways this is exactly the scenario we've been fighting for on AO3.

Curious - about how many hours a day do you spend online? Outside of work tasks, that is.

I get probably a couple hours a day. I work a job where I don't have the option to browse my phone or anything so 10hrs a day I am fully disconnected. I usually browse for a bit after work and then after dinner. I used to check the news when I woke up but that turned out to be an awful way to start the day.
