I'm not really affected because I have never liked him or his works

(Anonymous) 2024-07-19 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What was the point of replying then?

"God, this heatwave needs to end soon. People are dying, and everyone else is sick and miserable."
"I'm not really affected because I live in northern Finland."

OK? Do you want a cookie?

nayrt but people love to contribute, even when they don't have much to contribute. It's weird.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-20 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it comes from a fear that there won't be enough conversation threads and posts, idk.

Finland is a nowhere place, nobody cares about it or your opinion on it.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-20 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
wtf? Why are you commenting then? Did you think the secret was being directed to you?

What are you doing, dude?

Stop putting people on pedestals.

I can understand the concern that him being a piece of shit tars the communities he’s helped but honestly I don’t think it’s an issue. No one who cares about those communities cares because of him. And bigots were never listening to him on the first place.

This sounds less about putting him on a pedestal and more about being disappointed about not getting more of OP's favorite shows. I've never put any of my favorite writers on pedestals because I know where that can lead, but I'd still be devastated if them turning out to be awful meant that something of theirs that I loved would never get an ending.

nayrt +1. I don't get the sense that OP is putting either author on a pedestal. It's valid to be disappointed that an author whose work you enjoyed did something awful, and through their actions a TV series you enjoyed might be derailed. There's no worship or pedestals involved in that.

That’s a valid concern but OP didn’t mention it. Or if they did I can’t see it; the secret is a bit hard on my eyes tbh.

SA
I got 9 and 10 mixed up, my bad! My original comment should have been for secret 9. I didn’t even read this one because it’s even harder on my eyes after squinting through 9.

Pretty certain Good Omens will survive. Both Tennant and Michael Sheen have substantial fanbases, and Terry Pratchett was co-creator and is safely dead. Amazon is unlikely to cancel the show, they'll just scrub Gaiman's name from it and keep him off the press trail.

Plus, these accusations seem to not have had any long lasting staying power in general audience. A few ultra SJnerds, and a few hardcore ultra-anti SJnerd-nerds care, but that is about it. Funny how both groups always end up in the same judgemental place? Horseshoe effect is a bitch.
