But it's been more than 20 years since I was in Catholic school and closer to 40 since I had my first Confession, so it might be changed, more recently,

(Anonymous) 2024-07-20 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)For me it makes more sense since you're making a confession and you are asking for forgiveness to the father. The blessing comes at the end of the confession, sure, but you are there to "beg" the father to forgive you for your sins, not to bless you.
IDK man, maybe it's a regional thing like the other anon above said. People raised Catholics are big on sins and asking to be forgiven.
