My biggest problem right now is US politics, and I don't know if I can tell my therapist because I don't know her political views.

Oh man, I feel this. I live in Texas. I have a new therapist. I don't know her well enough to know her political views. She does know what I do for a living. But I haven't come out as bi to her yet. And I have no idea how to talk to her about how stressful this state and this country are making me right now.

If they are a good therapist then it won't matter because they are professional enough to separate their personal views from their professional obligations. If they are not good enough therapist to be able to do that, then you need to get a new therapist in any case; and it is best to know.

^This. Unfortunate, and I can understand why people don't want to go through the stress and trouble of finding out, but this is correct. Personally, I would not want nor feel comfortable with a therapist whose political views were significantly different than mine, particularly in today's climate.

I rec the secular therapy project. They're vetted that no matter their personal feelings they only use evidence based therapeutic practices.

Personally I have trouble finding therapy my insurance covers and is near enough work that I don't have to take time off to see them.

I feel it but worse. Any our therapist can choose to disclose my information to the government. I am Russian. So. Yeah.

But really I don't think that I would be comfortable with person who is republican even without everything else
