I've never understood America's dislike for the French, especially since without French military aid America quite literally would not exist as a country.

I'm American and I've been to France and I liked it. I'd visit again if I got the opportunity.

A bunch of Americans got all pissy whiny baby when France didn't support the post-9/11 invasion of Iraq.

Hating France was an American pasttime long before that my young grasshopper. Long before anyone here was born, I'm pretty sure.

The majority of Americans don't know their own history well enough to know that. IME, the way it was taught in school, the Revolutionary War was 100% Americans, period.

i always thought it was the french who hated americans and then the americans hated them back (this was pre 9/11 era as well.) i am aware that most countries don't like america including our allies but france was one of the allies who hated us most for some reason. idk, i never really looked into it.

i've also heard that many french canadians won't acknowledge anyone who doesn't speak french. any french canadians here? if so, care to confirm or deny? (in english preferably since most people in the us have no reason to speak french)

I know several people who have been to France, on vacation, and they all said the people there were extremely rude. And these people I know are not stereotypical Annoying American Tourists; they've been lots of places and France is the only place where they had anything negative to say about the people. Well, Paris in particular. I've heard it confirmed that Americans find Parisians rude, but other parts of France are all right. But most Americans vacation in Paris, so I guess we've gained this idea of France = Paris = rude people.
