I feel this way about all of my older favourites. Very rarely do I find myself wishing for more of a thing I loved as it was.

More often, I hear the term "sequel" or "reboot" or "continuation" and break out into a cold sweat over what could go wrong.

But I've somehow come full circle and get a kick out of Friends (and other 'old' sitcoms of the era). I used to only see the glaring dated (and often offensive) stuff, but now I can watch it and feel that nostalgia and get a laugh out of the stuff that's still funny, all while acknowledging the bad stuff. It's been nice.

For some reason, I didn't have any difficulty looking past the dated (and sometime problematic) aspects of Friends, despite the fact that I pretty much watched it for the first time around five years ago. (I'd seen S1 on DVD back in the mid-00's, but that was it.)

I found it enjoyable to watch, albeit pretty light fare, and I felt like I could totally understand what had made it such lightning in a bottle back in the 90's when it aired.

I do struggle to get past the dated elements of some media, though, so I find this secret relatable. Just not wrt Friends for some reason.

The whole "putting the text behind the object in the picture" is interesting visually, but damn if it doesn't make it incredibly difficult for me to read. I noticed this on another secret recently.

On topic, I've noticed that once you're in one fandom (or any specific sphere) long enough everything gets repetitive.

I guess it depends what commissions you’re getting and the fandoms. I’m not an artist but as someone who would consider commissioning an artist, I can easily see my request being unimaginative and boring/samey. OTOH, there are at least five things from my ships I would love to see art in a style I like and that don’t exist. Some artists would insist they do because they have been done in other styles, but all of them look fucking awful to me.

I can also imagine someone seeing artwork they like of someone else’s OC and wanting the same thing for their OC. And maybe that is a bit unimaginative but it could also be a result of enjoying trends and I just don’t see anything wrong with that.

If you want to be challenged more, you’ll probably have to extend your net so to speak to reach outside of your current bubble.

Just speaking personally, I'm in fandom because I want to see my OTPs pine, have rampant UST, get together, and fuck nasty. Are there a nearly infinite number of scenarios in which I would like to see them do these things? Hell yeah there are! But I may be disinclined to jump straight to the weirder and more inventive shit unless I've already commissioned art for a couple of less wild ideas first. Sort of like not buying a neon orange handbag until you have a black handbag for everyday. *shrug* And since most people probably aren't commissioning 5+ pieces of fanart from the same artist, it doesn't really surprise me that the majority of commissions are pretty basic.

Roughly three years ago, I made the below secret. I'm proud to announce that I took some stats recently and I have SURPASSED this BNF both in number of works AND total words published for this ship. (Not kudos but that was always a bit of an unrealistic dream.) There is one other person who has more works than me (not this person) and yet another person with more wordcount. But I'm sitting at #2 for both of these things, above this BNF (and I'm tickled I'm not the only person to have surpassed them). I'm going to keep going for #1 and leave this BNF in the dust. :)

A big THANK YOU to the folks here who encouraged me in my pettiness! I wouldn't have had the motivation to toil for years if it hadn't been for FS <3

(tl;dr of previous secret: I got into a new pairing where the BNF who has written the most works and almost all the top kudos'd fic for the pairing is constantly complaining about how new people seem to have forgotten how Big of a Deal she is for this ship. So I secretly made a petty promise to surpass her in terms of output and kudos for the pairing.)

Unfortunately, and I don't mean this in an insulting way, it's probably you.

Generally speaking, as people get older, they get less tolerant of bullshit because they've seen and heard it all over time. Plus they know most communities don't last and tend to feel less like they've got to commit to any particular one seriously, whereas younger fans tend to get super committed to the first few they find and are willing to ignore the bad for the good.

Sorry, ZZZ comes with a built-in fanbase of people who play Genshin and HSR, you think there isn't going to be crossover with all the toxic people that play the other games? Have people started wars over "ZZZ does [x] better while [y] game could never" or vice versa?

I enjoy both Genshin and HSR personally but my God the "Genshin could never" meme got so old. I think I would have felt that way even if I only played HSR.
