Adaptions you want

[personal profile] philstar22 2024-07-25 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
What adaptions would you like to see that have never been adapted before? What adaptions would you like to see done again, but better?

Also, if you want, what things do you think have been adapted too many times?

Assassin's Creed

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I would love a new proper Assassin's Creed movie or tv show.

Re: Assassin's Creed

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
God that movie was a travesty. What the fuck were they thinking.

too many times

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I am so tired of Batman and Spiderman origin stories. Or just Batman and Spiderman in general. Give it a rest already!

Yes. Then again, I think those two are overrated in general. There are much more interesting superheroes.

Re: too many times

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Man I love Spider Man, so disagree there, but I can agree that there is an oversaturation of Peter Parker movies, and especially origin stories. (How many times must we watch uncle ben die???)

Would love a movie focused on Miguel or Gwen, or Hobie, or Pav or-- you get it...!

I'd add Miles, too, but we have the spiderverse films and I'd prefer some breathing room before he gets an LA or another animated feature (after the third comes out ofc) so he doesn't start getting as oversaturated as peter is.

I want Chosen One/squire to sorcerer/blacksmith to knight type of sword and sorcery movies. We had quite a few in the 80s but modern ones are heavy on politics/court intrigue/machinations and light on everything else. Not to mention gratuitous sex and violence. I don’t mind senior violence but it should serve a purpose. And I’d rather it were something with a story instead of a barrage of CGI action sequences with barely a thread to string them together.

Actually, this is pretty much true for every genre.

Ooo, yes. I'd love both a standard for that type of story and then also a gender-flipped one that follows all the tropes but the chosen one is female.

A proper halo TV series. Coming off the well received video game adaptations of the last of us and fallout it's criminal what they did to halo.

Legit all they had to do was follow the actual plot of the original games. It's not that hard ?? Why do ppl fuck that up ? Looking at you Witcher season 2 >>

I've never seen a TV or movie version of Alice in Wonderland that did justice to the book, and I've seen lots of them.

Re: Adaptions you want

I feel like with some adaptions, the adaptions end up becoming more popular culture than the original so then future adaptions have to copy the first adaption instead of doing their own thing and following the original. This is true with Alice and also with Wizard of Oz.

I liked the 1985 Alice in Wonderland two-part made-for-television film (Part 1: Alice in Wonderland - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnRAjBVjiDw, Part 2: Through the Looking-Glass - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwI0Exlgu0M). It was an Irwin Allen production, and it definitely feels like one. It had a seriously all-star cast, even if I didn't recognize some of them at the time. It had a bunch of original musical numbers. And the Jabberwock scared the crap out of me.

I'd love an adaptation of the Odyssey. We've had the Illiad done too many times it's Odysseus' time to shine.

So, there was actually a tv adaption in the 90s that was semi-decent. But yes, I agree.

A good adaptation of World War Z instead of that travesty we got.

Oooo, yes. Keep in the Pan is creepy stuff too.

The Blue Castle

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
And no modernization bullshit. Just straight up story of a girl in the 1910s finding out she's got a year to live and telling society to fuck off by marrying some "horrible" man. And going to live in a green wonderland and only emerging to fuck around with her horrible family. The story is actually pretty modern on its own, exploring some pretty heavy themes (Cissy and her baby, Barney's childhood, hell, Valancy's childhood and life in poverty) and honestly, it reads like all the characters are people you know.

Dickens' A Christmas Carol has been adapted to death by every third rate TV series since the mid seventies.

Enough already!

I'd like a straight adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (as in, no modern AU, no fresh spin that focuses on Holmes' drug addiction, etc.), one that sticks to the time period and tries to do justice to the actual cases rather than making it a big thing about Holmes and Watson's relationship. It's not that I haven't enjoyed many of the fresh take adaptations, it's just that I'd like to see a Granada-like adaptation, with a generous budget, attention to historical detail and a new Holmes and Watson that fit their roles like a glove.

And I'd REALLY like it if they don't obsessively focus on Moriarty in a series-long villain arc or screw up Irene Adler.

TV show to movie adaptations I want

(Anonymous) 2024-07-25 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
There have been a lot of television series adapted to live-action feature films. Some that I’m not even sure people noticed (CHiPs, Car 54, Where Are You?, Dragnet, Land of the Lost, Leave It to Beaver, The Honeymooners), many bad (The Avengers, The Beverly Hillbillies, Dennis the Menace, The Dukes of Hazzard, I Spy, Inspector Gadget, The Lone Ranger, Lost in Space, The Masters of the Universe, Thunderbirds, Wild, Wild West), many meh (The A-Team, Bewitched, Dark Shadows, Dudley Do-Right, The Equalizer, The Fall Guy, The Flintstones, Fantasy Island, George of the Jungle, Get Smart, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Maverick, McHale's Navy, The Mod Squad, Sgt. Bilko, Starsky & Hutch, S.W.A.T., Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone), a few good (21 Jump Street, The Addams Family, The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels, Scooby Doo, Star Trek), and a couple of outstanding ones (The Fugitive, Mission: Impossible), your mileage may vary on all of these.

I would really love a movie adaptation of The Incredible Hulk TV show, no real connection to the MCU, just David Banner running from a reporter and helping out where he can, in the manner of The Fugitive - well-acted action, suspense, and drama that is intense but grounded (but zero CGI for The Hulk, paint Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson green and go). And an adaptation of The Greatest American Hero in the manner of Scooby Doo – tongue firmly in cheek, but with affection and respect for the source material. Maybe a You Can't Do that on Television adaptation in the manner of 21 Jump Street - with its own story to tell in a different fashion and having fun with the known conventions, and of course with a Canadian cast (funnier if the actors are ones most assume are American).

I'd like a TV or movie adaptation of Animorphs that's not the shitty 90's Nickledeon one

Since Mean Girls was a quasi-adaptatipn (meaning derived from a non-fiction book), I'd like an adaptation of either For the Love of Men or The Schools We Need and Why We Don't Have Them. Fiction stories pulling from either of these books would be at least interesting and unexpected.

I know it's already in development hell, but I would really like to see Warhammer 40k adaptations. The aesthetics are just so pleasing to me. I desire more of it in more ways. An animated adaptation of their YA novels might be perfect, not too much blood and gore and aimed at a wide enough market to bring in new addic- I mean fans.

Failing that, I'd like to see a remake of Wishbone. If getting a trained dog is too difficult I'd be ok with a puppet or cartoon critter filling that spot. I just want there to be more child-friendly adaptations of classic works so we can get kiddos up to speed on cultural references outside of Star Wars and Spielberg movies.
