I think you're onto something here, anon.

I for sure know that when I'm up at 2 AM bored and looking for something to do, find a fic with my favorite pairing in it and read it to the end just to see what happens and how the author resolves this rambling plot even though it is pretty OOC, and don't leave a comment because I don't have anything particularly nice to say... right then, without fail, I suddenly have a random, seething hatred for Author's Notes, which may or may not even have appeared in the fic.

Everyone else too, right? That's how it works?

When I finish 50,000 words of mildly unsatisfying fic, my first thought is definitely "I bet those 50,000 unsatisfying words would have suddenly and miraculously metamorphosed into a completely different and more satisfying 50,000 words if only the author hadn't said 'comments feed the author! :)' 37 times."

This is pretty obviously a response to secret 6406-10 (https://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/3045349.html?thread=1125582309#cmt1125582309) from a bit over a week ago. It doesn't make sense outside of this context and OP's decision to submit it as a secret (thereby removing that context and framing it as general wisdom) is a silly one.
