You seem to have read the comment as "only Oxbridge educated comedians/actors are good" whereas I thought it was clearly meant as "some of the best comedians/actors are Oxbridge educated and it would be a loss to comedy/acting if they wouldn't be allowed to perform".

Oh if that's the storyline then yeah why would he have a vagina if he was trans???

A lot of times I don't think it's even exactly "fetish" fic, it's "I want fic about blorbo getting railed that I can imgine myself in, and I have a vagina" (a lot of the time even the stuff that's really perfunctory about the trans aspects is written by trans folks) but yeah.

It's at least marginally better than the "I want to write het fic but between two cis dudes because vaginas are icky, which I will state repeatedly" that we used to get, I guess.

As the parent, I am listening to my kids when they bring this type of situation up and working very hard on changing my behavior. I still offer support, but they are adults and they get to decide how they want to do things. I’m ancillary at this point, and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

The character with the magic powers is kind of a troll and a case could be made that he left the vagina on purpose to fuck with the dude in the secret. I genuinely never considered anything like this (I don't read fics for the dude in the secret) but I'm warming up to the idea NGL.

The good thing about the past is that it shows us that things change soon enough. Fandom got over it's "ew, girls" phase, it'll get over the annoying current trends as well.

You're not actually talking about class struggles. You're just throwing the word around as if you don't have anything more to back you up. Which is weird, since class is very much an issue in the UK and you could easily make your arguments.

I mean people used to write them as just cis female but whole fandoms completely stopped writing that trope because they were tired of the "genderswap is homophobia/transphobia" callouts. (In other fandoms genderswap is still alive and well.)

My mom "helicopter"ed me when I was younger, but I also got a lot of 'you're too smart to not be doing xyz' or 'you're lazy and not trying' blah blah blah, 'you need to grow up' 'peter pan syndrome' etc........ and like. Her help was very Conditional. I only was worthy of it if she saw me desperately struggling. Once I was able to push myself into independence and broke free, suddenly it was 'OH NO, YOU DONT HAVE TO DO ALL OF THAT I'LL HELP YOU DON'T WORRY ABOUT A THING'

then I got diagnosed with ASD a few months ago

BOY HOWDY I could only *WISH* she went back to that crazy shit from yesteryears, because I was at least familiar enough with it to know how to tune her out and shit. But here I am again, at 38 years old, and she treats me like I'm a whole preteen. Granted, I also kinda have very, uh. Teenager coded habits (like my hobbies and my personality when I'm not masking) but this time I truly think she believes I'm incompetent lol. But now it's go time for me to grow up yet again so we'll see what happens.

Not at all. My dad passed away eight years ago but before his death, he treated me as an adult who lived in his house. My mom doesn't but we live across the US from each other, which might help. But we talk daily and she never makes me feel incapable or gives me unasked for advice or anything like that.
