i think they had the same perspective at the time of the novel, and I definitely think she had a huge crush on him, but frankly, it's more likely that Mary would grow out of it (especially as Lizzie would give her the opportunity to like...meet more people) and therefor outgrow Mr. Collins in a way that would be terrible for her if she'd married him. Moreover, Mr. Collins is the type of person who needs a deft hand to stop him from being an absolute asshole, and it's better for his wife to have those skills so he doesn't inadvertently fuck things up socially for both of them.
