Tbh, I don't think fandom is ever ready for anything. But kinks must still be expressed, and I can't think of a better place than fandom.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who most these are, but is that IROH? Being described as an asshole genius white dude blorbo? I mean, THAT's certainly a spicy take, lmfao.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-09 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't confirm or deny, but I was thinking about the same, yes.

Unless we're both wrong and it's not Iroh.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I uh. Couldn't resist using that screenshot and then realized too late that that I'd forgotten my actual theme.

He is a former genocidal conquering imperialist hotshot asshole prince though, he ranks pretty high on my list of fictional characters who are seen as cuddly mentor-types and probably have that kind of shit in their past, and who would handle the fallout in an interesting way

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I am lol'ing at you getting caught up in the design and forgetting the actual theme/secret. Fair enough.

AYRT
Yeah that's definitely a fair assessment of his younger years, I did laugh pretty hard at the "white" part though. I'm not sure if he qualifies as "blorbo" either (certainly not in his youth).

I didn't even see Iroh, too distracted by the idea of Arthur being a genius

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I had to go back and look because for some reason my brain when straight to Arthur the Aardvark and I was like no, that can't be right.

LMAOOOO good point!

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, honestly it might be worth posting on an orphaned account at least. I see a lot more inappropriate or transgressive plots that fandoms wouldn't handle or be normal over written about. I find this idea cathartic personally.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
This does not sound like an enjoyable read to me, but I wouldn't flame you over it, I'd just ignore it.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
This, 100%.

Also, while I have zero problem with OP's interest in this concept, the secret's wording is a bit off to me. For me it's less that I'm "not ready for" this kind of fic, and more that I'm not remotely interested in it. "Not ready for it" implies some level of lack or failing at not being interested in a story about how one's fave(s) committed acts of sexual misconduct. But I don't perceive there to be any sort of moral or intellectual superiority or imperative in being interested in that kind of fic. It's totally valid, and definitely has narrative value; it's just not what I'm here for.

/hits imaginary THIS button/

I am all in favour of kink tomato and people writing what makes them happy, but I cannot understate my lack of interest in this.

Like, enough beloved RL people turned out to be assholes. I have absolutely no desire to read fic where my fictional heroes are too.

I'm not kink-shaming but I am kink-asking why?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Partly because I think it would help me process for when it inevitably happens again in real life; and partly because I have a fantasy that someday somebody will manage to respond to being me-too'd in a way that it's actually believable they've changed for the better, and I've given up on hoping it'll happen in real life.

Partly because, especially when an SA story like the current one is yet again all over fandom, it starts to bug me than fandom almost never does address these things in fic? There's a lot of "I can enjoy mass murder, but I draw the line at sexual harassment!!" in fandom, where guys are written as doing all kinds of terrible shit and crossing people's boundaries willy-nilly, but of course they have always been incredibly careful about sexual consent. And I get where that comes from and the fantasy of the bad boy who's careful with only you, and even like the fantasy sometimes, but sometimes I stop being able to believe in that specific fantasy and I want a story where he is actually the kind of dude he probably would be in real life (especially in fandoms where he pulls that boundary-crossing shit onscreen and the fic just decides it's not canon.) Plus I've been in RPF fandoms where people did the exact same thing with their boundary-crossing RL celebrities and it is a lot easier to end up unsafe places when you transfer the "he's an asshole to everyone else but a good boyfriend" fantasy to real people, so it sometimes give me the willies when it's that universal as fanon.

But mostly: it's interesting to think about what fictional people and their loved ones would do in that situation where there are no real people to get hurt, and it makes for actually a really good complicated character storyline that you can go a lot of different places with. It gets all the characters out of their comfort zones and into new character arcs real fast.

I very much doubt anything Arthur had done would be called sexual assault by anyone of the time, even if it would meet the definition in present day. And if someone did complain, since he was either crown prince or king, it might get written into (or might already be) law that whatever he did was fine. Also, genius? That guy?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't have been called sexual assault because that term didn't, like, exist, but given Camelot has potatoes, I think we can get away with it. (Also the actual middle ages did in fact have "don't coerce women into sex" as an ethical guideline, which powerful men routinely ignored. That wasn't invented recently? So yeah, he's about as likely to actually get cancelled for it as Tony Stark, but then again, he's about as likely to get cancelled for it as Tony Stark.)

...also I'll admit I noped out of that series well before the end but sure he's a bit dim but also prophesied king who will unite all Albion? Charisma and strategic skill for days? Wins every tournament he enters? Did they just forget about that bit? Nobody's going to be calling Jamie Tartt an inductive genius either but he's a genius at what he does.

He's mostly included here because he's one of the only characters I've ever seen anyone attempt that storyline for in fic, though.

Damn, now I’m really curious about a Tony Stark me-too fic.

I do enjoy the character in canon and fic, but I also completely believe that some level of sexual harassment or assault is very in line with the MCU depiction.

And so many fics have gone over a redemption arc focused on his weapons dealing and/or poor corporate management, but I’ve never seen a redemption arc for his sexual conduct.

If anyone has recommendations, I’d love to know.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the sexual harassment of employees is on-screen. And even if there's not a huge pattern with him I bet at his low points he went to house parties where there were women who were established to be "available" to the guests and he was drunk and did not worry about asking whether they were there voluntarily or, in fact, over 18 - there was some stuff in Iron Man 2 that wasn't that but was definitely hinting at that kind of scene. If a story like that broke with his name on a guest list there would be plenty of sexual harassment stories to back it up, and it would fit in well with his existing redemption arc.

But I've never seen something that addresses it directly, like the below comment mentioned all I've seen is fic where he gets accused of something that's provably a lie, which is sort of the opposite story.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about this in regards to Tony Stark a lot. How MeToo could have played out in the MCU. I'd love to see a fic about it.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I love this <3 while I don’t agree with all of your inclusions (Arthur? Genius? Ummmm) I love that you have fics already and think you should post them. Sock puppets are so handy for those things! You don’t even have to get emails about the comments if you don’t want the fallout right in your face.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-10 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
I've read a fic like that about Tony. There was a woman who accused him but it turned out she lied. Another fic was about a baby that a woman said was his and it wasn't but Tony adopted it anyway.

Anyway I think that it's fine as long as it's tagged.

Lol right? Is there a single thing this assortment of characters have in common?
