They're both shows with majority queer casts made by queer creators who've amassed a weirdly passionate hatedom that's convinced their popularity is proof the animation industry is creatively bankrupt?

Also, musicals.

OP

The first is definitely a similarity, and an annoying one, being a fan of both. I knew I was going to get comments from the hatedom with the secret, but I bit the bullet and posted, anyway. But I don't think it was part of why they got linked in my head.

Funnily enough, though, I think, while it is far more generic of a similarity, the musical thing *is* part of it. Because I feel more of a similarity in the music of the two shows than in most other musicals. I can't pinpoint why, aside from Out For Love and Do It For Him/Her having very similar themes and Velvette's voice sounding similar to Garnet's, only higher pitched, so Respectless and Made of Love feel similar, despite being completely different thematically, and only very vaguely similar musically. But it is there.

+10, Bingo.

yeah, lol, what the fuck is up with this hatedom? the show is not the best, sure, but it's pretty innocuous and well produced overall.
it seems like shows aimed at primarily queer people can't catch a break. it's fucking exhausting.

(btw I ended up dropping the show after one episode because it's not for me and guess what??? totally fine. not everything has to be to my liking. love that people are having fun in the fandom. some pretty talented artists in there)

Plenty of shows aimed at primarily queer people don't have a hatedom, lmao. And what fucking hypocrisy, "I don't like it either, but it's DIFFERENT when I personally don't like a thing!"

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
how is that hypocrisy when i state that i don't like it too, like many people, but I'm not part of the hatedom because I don't plaster everywhere that I think the show has "a shitty art style", a "rabid obnoxious fandom" etc etc, all stuff we keep seeing on this same community. and look above, on this same post!
I don't like the show, sure, but I'm fairly indifferent to it. I don't think it's BAD. I just tried it out and found out it's not for me. And I actually enjoy seeing people having fun with it, even if I'm not into the fandom myself.

Not liking something is not equal to HATING something.

How am I supposed to give a fuck if they have queer creators if the art style is ugly? Plenty of queer stories can exist without ugly art.
