I don't like it in real world set stuff. I don't necessarily always mind it in a magical sense, though I do prefer to see a relationship develop over time.

Yeah, I do kinda think the trope can be tonally suited for some stories. I'm thinking about fantasy that's specifically tonally evoking myths and fairy tales (not to be confused with the kind of fantasy that's borrowing a specific fairy tale or myth but being aggressively 21st-century about it).

Yup. And also, sometimes, what starts as instant love develops into something more and comes from more than just attraction. Like, with Beren and Luthien in Tolkien. Beren is super traumatized and only seen horror and then he gets into this hidden place, and she's the first thing he sees. And for her, she's been over protected and only seen beauty. And she sees this hurt, injured man and her healing instincts kick in.

So yes, they fell in love at a look in one sense. But in another sense, it wasn't that at all. And then they grow closer as time goes on. So it makes sense, at least to me.
