I always kind of took this trope as hyperbole (unless it was a universe with some sort of magic or extrasensory something going on where you could know some stuff about a person without talking to them) and it was actually attraction at first sight based on looks or infatuation at first sight based on other things observed in that first meeting and that it then quickly grew into love.
