I'm in a small fandom where my fave character is a lot of people's fave. There's a (relatively) lot of fic about her, and it's mostly all great. I have an f/f ship I like for her, which is pretty rare, mostly bc she gets read as ace by a lot of writers. There's great gen fic about her though so I don't feel I'm missing out on much

UNTIL

the latest (probably last) season introduced a het potential love interest for her. Didn't wind up being canon but there's been an explosion of M/F fic about her & him and I HATE it. I get all excited for a new fic until I check the tags.

This is really dumb of me, there's literally nothing in the actual show to support my ship so why am I rolling my eyes that so many people have jumped onto something that is actually plausible?

Times like those are when I'm glad for tag filters. I'd rather have nothing to read than see something that's going to bum me out whenever I look at it.

Aw yeah, that's frustrating. I wouldn't find it a good experience to go from being able to click on most new fic featuring this character to having to skip most of fandom's offerings because they're all a ship I don't ship. It happens, but it's not a fun time. :/

yep considering that background. while i'm not mad at the ship, if that's the one, i can understand how it feels okay to have a small ship when fandom doesn't really seem interested in shipping the character at all, but when they glom onto another ship, it feels much worse.

Yea I don’t know why I was anonymising it, that’s exactly what it is. I’ve just been spoiled for a long time with some fantastic fic and now I’m having to be more selective. Wahhh
