I'm in a small fandom where my fave character is a lot of people's fave. There's a (relatively) lot of fic about her, and it's mostly all great. I have an f/f ship I like for her, which is pretty rare, mostly bc she gets read as ace by a lot of writers. There's great gen fic about her though so I don't feel I'm missing out on much

UNTIL

the latest (probably last) season introduced a het potential love interest for her. Didn't wind up being canon but there's been an explosion of M/F fic about her & him and I HATE it. I get all excited for a new fic until I check the tags.

This is really dumb of me, there's literally nothing in the actual show to support my ship so why am I rolling my eyes that so many people have jumped onto something that is actually plausible?

That is rough. It can be so frustrating how random shipping and fandom can be. Like there are shows I enjoy and I had hoped would spark that fandom feeling but no, just a regular viewing and no shipping or anything.

I have been a miserable asshole all week and all my normal tricks aren't working.

1. Spend time with my kitty. She's the very best bad mood buster.

2. Watch something that is a favorite of mine, preferably something hopeful. Usually LOTR or Star Wars for movies or Doctor Who, Babylon 5, or Star Trek for TV.

3. Play music that makes me happy.

4. Figure out something that I can look forward to in the next few weeks.

My ultimate trick was to spend time with my dog, but she passed away last month. She was 17. But I think not having her around is a huge reason I'm so miserable lately and can't seem to shake it.

Usually my go-to tactic is to lean into it and find an online post to analyze/pick apart in excruciating detail. If that doesn't shift my mood, well, Tom Scott videos it is!
