I hate when fic writers make EVERY OC, even background randos who don’t affect the plot, somehow related to another canon character. It makes the world feel small and incestuous.

I don't think I've ever seen that in a fic, but yeah, that does sound annoying. Very lacking in creativity.

I don't think it's really a thing in fics, but it is very prevalent in discussions about headcanons

I can understand wanting a Main OC or two be related to existing characters for fear of lack of interest, especially when they are basically driving the story, but... EVERY OC? That's just ridiculous.
