I wanted exactly what I ended up with: a used but sound car that wasn’t flashy, had only six cylinders, and had the latest safety technology without a ton of bells and whistles (none, to be exact). I did know people who drove the two kinds of death traps you mentioned and in the case of the flashy car, the kid died. In the junk car, no one died but a girl did get tossed out and landed on her head. It rewrote her entire personality and last I heard she still hadn’t learned to tie her shoes.
