Gender role stuff was very much a selling point in the promotion of Iron Widow though? I get that if you heard some rando tell you it was going to be all giant mecha fights (of which there were plenty enough for me, but I get YMMV) and didn't mention anything else, you'd be disappointed, but that's false advertising on the part of the rando who told you that, not on the part of the book.

I didn't read/listen to any book reviews before reading the novel. I just read the brief summary, so while I expected gender role stuff to play a role, I didn't expect it to play a BIGGER role than the giant mecha fights.
