I probably would too, assuming they became fans of the games after the reported abuse. If somebody was a Starcraft fan because it was such a big part of their childhood, or because they made some good friends that way, I'd understand that.

Oh, absolutely this, I judge so hard. It's one thing if it's a lesser known situation that maybe only people extremely in deep would've heard of, it's another entirely when it's something as big as the Blizzard situation. Obviously not everyone at Blizzard is evil, but if you can put aside something that hurt real people for your enjoyment but NOT fictional people, I am judging like crazy.

Hm. Some of my friends and I casually enjoyed Arcane and have been talking about how we're looking forward to the second season. This is the first I've heard anything about abuse involving any of the people working on it.

I also only pay attention to the show, not the game.

Arcane is one of my favorite seasons of television in existence and I have no idea what abuse the secret is referring to. Whatever it is, it's not nearly as ubiquitous and well-known as OP seems to think it is.

I don't really have any opinion on the secret, though.

Riot Games had a class action sexual harassment and gender discrimination suit filed against them in 2018. Ironically, it seems as if the Blizzard sexual harassment news pushed it out, and that Blizzard's reputation tanking effectively rehabbed Riot's PR without Riot actually having to do any work to address the gender inequities. (To wit: one of the men in the Blizzard "Cosby Suite" photo was and remains a Riot employee.)

I'm of two minds on this.

Like if the person's stance is anything associated with fictional or IRL abuse by its creators is bad and no-go, and they're consistent about it and quit watching or playing anything like that themselves, okay.

If the person's stance is that we live in a society and there's nothing untouched by various -isms and abuse, and games and shows are made by huge teams of people (cast, crew, support, production) who aren't all responsible for the actions of their higher ups, etc etc and aren't judging one piece of media differently from another, okay.

If the person's stance is that what others like is problematic and awful, but what they like is okay, then no, get out.

DA

If the person can wrap their head around "if I shunned everything made by people I disapprove of, I'd have nothing to watch or read," I expect them to show enough nuance to realize that fiction does and should include characters who do unfortunate things, and cope with differences in fandom preference with a modicum of grace. As opposed to hyper-judging the behavior of safely imaginary people (and their real fans) while hiding behind academic jargon.

omg this resonates bc just this week a person on hazbin twitter I chat with was getting harassed and sent threats of violence simply for saying that Alastor's scene threatening Husk doesn't mean he's like regularly torturing Husk for shits and giggles and just.. basically having a DIFFERENT opinion on the scene. A bunch of people were basically swarming them with insults, telling them they're a legit dangerous person and saying they wanted to cave their head in

Like all because they read the scene as "Husk pressed Al's berserk button" and not "Alastor tortures Husk for funzies" (or even worse "Because "Loser Baby" compared Angel And Husk, that mean's Al is fucking molesting Husk) And attacking anyone who dared think otherwise

Shit's deranged.
