I'm surprised that asexual people are writing anything sexual at all.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-02 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
:o Wait til you learn about lesbians that write slash!

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
OP Why? I already know they do. I'm surprised that people that don't feel any sexual feelings or do not like sex write anything about sex at all.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
speaking for myself: i am very sex repulsed. i think its disgusting, i don't get why people do this shit. so, obviously, i want to see why, because i feel isolated by the rest of humanity, but i also write Freak Shit bc there's some bizarro-land psychology going on i find relatable because it is so unnatural. i am the freak for thinking two people who love each other very much is disgusting, so... here's my noncon necrophile incest or whatever. its all about the freak aspect, really.

I can't speak for the entire asexual community, obviously, but I'm asexual and I love writing and reading kinky smut. I love exploration of emotions and relationships via kink and sex. I don't want any of it irl, but then most of the things I really love in fic I absolutely do not want irl. Think h/c, wump, dark!fic of all kinds.

To further confuse people, I haaaate reading fics with asexual characters. I don't want any self identity in my fun fantasy fiction.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've just started assuming that the writers of the kinkiest smut are ace.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly it varies for me. Sometimes I wanna write (and read!) as much filthy smut as possible, then I'll go through a phase of not wanting to write or read anything smutty at all and feeling actively disgusted by the idea. It just depends.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm never disgusted by it but I agree it changes with my moods just like all my interests. Sometimes I want smut, sometimes I want fluff, sometimes I want both.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not asexual, but I do write about things in fic that I don't do in real life all the time. Some to do with sex, some not. There are a lot of things I can think of that are fun and/or interesting to explore in fic that I wouldn't in real life because of the real-life disinclinations, hangups, drawbacks, consequences, possible complications, or feasibility.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not ace but I often approach shipping and nsfw fic from the POV of a character study rather than out of sexual interest... I think relationships and sexuality are interesting to read and write about because it involves complex interactions, the characters' personal history with that stuff, the challenges of being mismatched sexually, the vulnerability of exploring new kinks together, how the characters express affection, pushing physical limitations... I could go on! Sure, sometimes I read nsfw fic cause it's hot (though I've heard for many asexuals, fiction is appealing while real sexuality isn't), but just as often I'm there for the story. Otherwise, why would I read nsfw fic about characters I'm not remotely attracted to, doing kink stuff I find unappealing? If you're not just trolling, surely you can understand there's multiple reasons to read nsfw fic?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you think they are trolling? I think this secret is just a little bit amused. And it is amusing

I’m ace and I rarely write sexy stuff, but I sure do love reading it.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personally when writing smut I approach it from a character study standpoint, because that's what makes it interesting for me. When I'm reading it, it's the same thing, even if these are PWP fics. I also can't speak for everyone, but I find writing/reading smut can help work out some emotions I have around the subject. Catharsis is good!

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't make any sense to me but I'm far from surprised by it atp (and really it doesn't have to make sense to me)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah another ace smut writer here. Varying degrees of filthiness depending, but I write more sexual content than not.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I can write about characters having sex without wanting to have any myself.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
There's two kinds of asexuals: the ones who want nothing to do with sex and make twee jokes about cake, and the ones who are having gobs more sex than you've ever had in your life.

That extends to fandom as well--the ones who want only gen (and whom I honestly feel really sorry for in the current state of fandom), and the ones who are pumping out industrial amounts of porn for kinks that would be difficult, dangerous, disgusting, or impossible to practice IRL. (This is what made it click for me.)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
All my ace friends write kinky smut and also make twee jokes about cake. None of them are having sex (unless they're lying about it) but they don't want nothing to do with it.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are asexuals having so much sex

Yeah, I mean, obviously murder-mystery writers should just be put in jail when they publish their first novel, to save time.

Of course, sometimes it's already too late by then—look at Anne Perry!

Graysexual Aromantic here.

If you keep sexual matters at an emotional arm's length, and have next to no shame about that, you can overanalyze kinks to your heart's content. You cannot feel shame about anything that is emotionally irrelevant to you.

To me it feels like I can jeer at the whole spectrum of possible sexual behavior, just like a twelve year old kid who's just had THE TALK with his/her parents.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm ace and while I don't write smut (well, I try occasionally) I do READ the filthiest smut that includes so many kinks (... mostly when my period is about to start, which?).

I want nothing to do with sex irl, but love it in fiction. Sure, I can tell some of it is unrealistic, but I don't technically KNOW and also... real sex is already ??? to me, so adding Idk tentacles doesn't seem that much stranger. Maybe that's why many aces write so much kinky stuff. /shrug

It always is one of those weird "huh" moments, when I remember that most real people actually have sex irl - many (semi-) regularly, when for me it's just a fantasy of what characters do essentially.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-03 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, fellow asexual who for some reason starts reading TONS of smut when I'm about to start my period - like, I sometimes know my period is coming BECAUSE I find myself on AO3 filtering out any fics that aren't explicit. I suddenly feel way less alone now.

Man, hormones are WEIRD.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-04 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
SA

YES.
My period app going "your period will probably start in two days" always has me going "Oh, THAT'S why, I should have known" every damn month.
