Is this actually going to amount to anything or is it just a symbolic move? Because I imagine both Elon Musk and JK Rowling have plenty of lawyers to help them wriggle though legal loopholes, or drag out any court cases until it goes away.

As far as I can see, the case doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. The boxer in question is male and failed a DNA test. Anyone so inclined can argue that it's mean to say "he," but legally, there is no argument against what JK Rowling said.

I.e., "The idea that those objecting to a male punching a female in the name of sport are objecting because they believe Khelif to be ‘trans’ is a joke. We object because we saw a male punching a female."

So, instead, we get trans activists pretending that JK was silent because she was intimidated, when she was visiting another country on holiday; pretending she deleted Olympics-related posts when they're still all visible at Twitter for anyone who cares to look; claiming she called Khelif trans when the issue here is simply that Khelif is male; and random speculation about the condition of her house and mental state.

I don't plan to reply to anyone who feels compelled to name-call or equate this with trolling.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
...except Khelif isn't male, in any sense of the word. The tests she "failed" weren't even DNA tests and the organization making that claim couldn't back it up with actual evidence. All records show she was born female.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Brave of you to drop a bunch of misinformation and proven falsehoods and slink away, I guess. If this is a troll, it's at least higher quality than most of the recent FS trolls.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Bad faith arguments here too. Please tell us all about this "DNA test" she supposedly "failed"? Because the organization that performed the test that disqualified her from the Russian-run games even admitted it wasn't a chromosome test she supposedly "failed" - they couldn't give ANY specifics as to the "test" at all, just that it had happened and it had been "failed". You don't know anything about anything but you're here to bring us a special heaping of bullshit.

Even symbolic moves help. They shift public opinion, and they make it less likely that the lower level transphobes will pipe up because they know they do not have the money.

OTOH, JKR having mental health/neurological issues would make her fall from grace sad and not deserved. I wouldn't wish that on the JKR I thought I liked.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no horse in this race but I hope Imane sues JKR for defamation.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
JKR can get fucked, but I think the black mold jokes are funny as hell.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
but like for reals her house is crawling with black mold. that's just... fucked up

I got tired of everything HP long before I knew anything about her but I will never tire of the mold memes LOL

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
They're very very unfunny (aka, I hate mold and the jokes squick me bigtime)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
They’re just stupid. Anyone who thought for a second that ALGERIA let a trans person live let alone represent them in the Olympics is dangerously stupid.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
And this straw man gets trotted back out. It would not be the first time or the last that a country puts forward its fastest (erroneously assigned female at birth) runner or hardest hitter, and then faces controversy if a DNA test reveals they were male.

Erik Schinegger, for instance, was apparently competing in women's Olympic skiing entirely in good faith, but despite what he'd thought, he was a man. https://www.evakurilova.com/p/the-womens-ski-champion-who-turned

Eehhh, a lot of Muslim countries are more open to trans people than they are to, say, homosexual people. So not saying she is trans but this is not the argument you think it is.

The way I LAUGHED when I heard about this lawsuit. Someone finally made JKR shut the hell up, praise be!

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Its even better with the fact that she had initially stated that she was willing to go to jail for her behavior, only to start shutting up and deleting tweets once the lawsuit actually came to be.

I think the last time I read ppls speculation on rowling's bs, some ppl thought it might have to do with rowling's own hangups over gender and her own femininity. Which I thought sort of made sense since why else would someone hyperfixate on gender issues to the point where it's virtually every day or so (outside of mental health stuff and black mold lmao). 🤔

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Joanne was so secure in her stance before. Her ego, dime-store feminism, and billion dollars made it easy for her to ignore whatever criticism was thrown at her, and it was infuriating! So, to see her retreat into her supervillain lair and have to finally shut the fuck up is so refreshing!

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I just immediately side-eye anyone that thinks JKR is transphobic.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
You are suspicious of anyone who has come to the conclusion that JK Rowling is transphobic? Well, I guess it's good thing to know that about yourself - that you don't trust people that use reason (given all of the evidence in her own transphobic words and behavior).

Okay TERF.

She thinks that all trans men are poor deluded autistic feeeeemaaaaales and that the only way to define a woman is by her ability to give birth (which means every infertile woman is no longer a woman, nor is any childfree woman, so).
