Crack Ships

How would you define a crack ship and what are some of yours?

Was trying to make a list of crackships I like. I usually define it as a ships that are absurd or unexpected. A kind of, "I'll know it when I see it" kind of thing.

So, Endeavor/All Might, Leon Kennedy/Mr. X, and John Watson/Moriarty.

But what about pairings like Gojo/Sukuna or Steve Rogers/Tchalla? Just rare pairs or also crack??

I crack!Shipped Galadriel/Sauron way before Rings of Power, thanks to a particular crack Tumblr blog. I do not ship the tv version. But I still crack!ship the book version because it is fun. Not in a they genuinely fall in love sense. In a "she hates his guts even as Annatar," he doesn't believe anyone could genuinely hate him and so becomes obsessed with her kind of way.

For me, crack shipping means I don't remotely ship it in a romantic sense or even as a real ship. I ship in a fully humorous, the idea amuses me kind of way.

I think a crack ship is "you have to have been smoking crack when you thought this up" type of wild. Not iust a rare pair, but a crazy "so crazy it might just work" pairing. A lot of the time I see it work it is a pairing between two totally unrelated fandoms.

I once read a crackfic that was Sailor Moon/Stargate and it actually worked. No pairings, but same kind of idea.

Call me naive, but when I first heard "Crack Ship" I didn't think about the drug, I thought it was to mean something like: You have to bend the canon so much to make it happen it cracks, lol.

But I would take it as two characters that never had any meaningful interaction, implied or otherwise, in canon. Maybe because they didn't exist in the same time and place, or because they just never met, or any interaction they had was very brief.

Never had any serious crack ships, but I did have quite a lot of fun with them. Transformers in particular is full of them, some that even get popular.

What if character a and character b are from completely different movies? What would it be like if those two characters meet and start dating?

I.e. Russell Ziskey from Stripes and Vanessa from Corvette Summer

Crack ships to be are ships that canonically speaking aren't viable in any realistic way and it's a ship that is more for fandom/fic fun play times, not something to seriously commit time and effort to fit into fandom in any realistic way.

I have no idea if this qualifies, but I once read a fan fic featuring Jack Harkness getting seduced by the actual fucking force of gravity!

(fun read, wish I could find it again)
