Satisfying Endings - inspired by secret #8

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
What series had the most satisfying ending for you?

Re: Satisfying Endings - inspired by secret #8

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like a cliche saying The Good Place-- I got to it late and I went into the finale thinking 'it CAN'T be as good as people keep saying', and maybe it wasn't perfect, but it left me feeling good about the whole thing.

Controversial choice- St. Elsewhere. Normally I would HATE an ending that said 'actually all the things you saw and all the people you came to care about never existed', but the acknowledgment that an autistic kid could actually have an imagination during a time when people acted like being autistic meant you were just literally sitting there no thoughts, head empty? It's not satisfying in a narrative way, I guess, so much as it is in a 'this is the first time I've been Seen' way?

Pushing Daisies

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it was rushed and didn't tie up everything, but I was happy with it. I like when a series gets notice they won't be renewed and so tries their best to tie things up rather than ending on a cliff hanger or something.

It tends to be a really love it or hate it ending, but the ending to the fifth season of Angel was perfection to me.

I'm not sure if it was "satisfying" as much as it was "hilarious", but Newhart.

The Lord of the Rings films.

Ironically, I remember two things: Tolkien had the bad habit of cutting away from climactic battles by knocking the character out, and while I understand the Scourging of the Shire in a worldbuilding and symbolic sense, it kind of made the story dragon a bit.

I also remember how when I first watched ROTK on theaters, people applauded every time the film faded. First when Frodo and Sam held each other, resigned to die; then when the eagles picked them; then when the community reunited; then when Aragon was crowned and the story ended with him kissing Arwen! People even stood up to clap wildly! But then there was the whole ending of Frodo...

Still, I like that ending because it did its best to end as many things as possible, and it showed via character actions and reactions the effect the war had on them. The scene of them in the pub, sitting in silence, and then bumping their mugs together, is a powerful one, because it shows without any dialogue or action the absolute hell the four hobbits went from. I read a lot of veterans voicing how it really feels like that. It doesn't follow book stuff since it also avoids the Scourging of the Shire (IMHO a good choice), but it keeps the spirit of the book in how war changes you.

Sense 8, I was sad the show was over but I legit had happy tears in my eyes because the last two episodes were full of so much love and it was such a wonderful send off to an otherwise really bonkers show.

Quite a few Korean shows manage this for me as well, certainly the ones that are built to be 16-20 episodes and nothing more, but I do have a special place for Crash Landing on You which is a touch bitter-sweet but still lovely, and Welcome to Samdal-ri which was so heart-warming throughout and ended in a way I loved.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood was pretty satisfying. And while I wasn’t a big fan of the last few seasons, I think The Big Bang Theory had a satisfying conclusion (minus the Penny is pregnant bit).

Babylon 5, either ending. Deep Space Nine and Voyager both had great endings. I have issues with season 7, but the final episode of Buffy was perfect.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was pretty good. So was Legend of the Seeker. And the SG1 final was decent.

Seconding The Good Place. Perfect.

Cdramas aren't really known for their satisfying endings. Kind of the opposite, to be honest... especially if you want happily ever afters, for beloved characters to NOT die, or just, you know, closure.

The Untamed - Considering that for censorship reasons, they could not be explicit about how Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian ended up together forever, I thought the ending was a lovely one. It was obvious to me (and most people) that they did end up together and were happy, and that final mountain top scene where LWJ calls out his name and WW turns around and his whole face lights up stayed with me for a long time.

Blood of Youth - I loved that Xiao Se didn't become the emperor, even if he was the most promising candidate for it. I loved that he preferred to wander the martial arts world with his friends, and that he went off to defeat the enemy AND returned, saw his younger brother secure on the throne, and then went off for more adventures.

Not a series finale, but I thought the ending of Ted Lasso Season 1 was perfection. I didn't vibe with S2 and haven't watched since, so can't speak to the rest of it.

The Bridge (Bron|Broen), I've never been so satisfied by a character arc as I was by Saga Noren's.

Mad Men - everyone is embarking on a new step in their life, I like that Don is left more or less in the same place, but mentally, he's allowed himself to process a lot of shit he'd been running away from

Lost - I know this one will forever be mixed in reception but I liked how it ended. And I liked that the last season was about closure, not so much "getting all the questions answered". The emotional catharsis for a lot characters paid off. I like that the happy ending is a bittersweet one, one that isn't clean cut with everything working out perfectly

The end of every season is satisfying, and the end of season 5 goes off the charts and I love it.

Inktober

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone participated?

I am not an artist at all and frankly can't draw for shit, but I thought it would be fun to do one drawing a day for about a month and then I realized Inktober is coming up. I'm wondering if it would be weird for a non-talented non-artist person to use the tag or join the communities and if maybe I should just do it for myself and not join? I am absolutely over thinking this, but I would love experiences and opinions if anyone has them to share.

Crack Ships

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
How would you define a crack ship and what are some of yours?

op

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Was trying to make a list of crackships I like. I usually define it as a ships that are absurd or unexpected. A kind of, "I'll know it when I see it" kind of thing.

So, Endeavor/All Might, Leon Kennedy/Mr. X, and John Watson/Moriarty.

But what about pairings like Gojo/Sukuna or Steve Rogers/Tchalla? Just rare pairs or also crack??

Recs.....

Because the Umbrella Academy secret made me want this....

Any good UA fic recs? I adore Klaus and Five the most, but also Victor. Fun stuff, fix-it stuff, BAMF!Five stuff, hell, BAMF!Klaus and Victor stuff! I just don't care to read 100,000 words about how sad, needy, broken and desperate Klaus is (he survived combat in Vietnam with no training - I think he's pretty damn tough).
