I want to know your favorite lesser known horror movies. Trying to make a list of what to watch.

Late Phases. Werewolves in a retirement home going up against a lone, blind war vet. Original, tense and badass.

Ginger Snaps
Daria meets a An American Werewolf in London.

Oooo, Ginger Snaps is great.

Oh hell yes Ginger Snaps \o/ I didn't mind the sequel either, although admittedly it's not as good as the first movie - but the third movie confused the hell out of me, but I could probably do with a rewatch.

Pontypool is my favorite zombie movie.

The Innkeepers (2011) was way better than I expected.

I don't know what counts as lesser-known to be honest. Event Horizon is my top favorite horror movie, not sure if that counts. In the Mountain of Madness is another great one. Sam Neill does great horror.

Trick R Treat is great. Pumpkinhead is fun.

I enjoyed the horror musical Anna and the Apocalypse, which is a Scottish High School Musical meets zombie movie.

The Devil Rides Out (`68), The Love Witch (`16), Magic (`78), The Abominable Dr. Phibes (`71), Carnival Of Souls (`62), Lair of the White Worm (`88), House (`85), The Haunting (`63)

And if you like Dr. Phibes, Theatre of Blood is a little love (especially if you like Shakespeare).

Ravenous (1999) doesn’t seem to be brought up much.

I’m not a big horror person usually, but I am a big fan of Robert Carlyle. And I really like the horror/Western combo.

god I love that movie. For literal decades in my house we have referred to Robert Carlyle as "the hot guy from Ravenous" - I was not even aware of his actual name until Once Upon a Time's opening credits burned it into my memory.

The Ritual(hopefully it’s still on Netflix), a good movie in general and with a monster design that’s absolutely fantastic. That shit is unnerving.

can confirm it's still on Netflix. it's such a beautiful movie scenery wise that I often forget it's a cult/monster movie

The Descent absolutely fucked me up the first time I saw it. Scariest horror movie I've seen; not for the faint of heart. Though admittedly the fact that it came on TV and I had no idea what it even was until shit started getting real probably accounts for at least some of why it hit me so hard.

The Thing from Another World (black and white fast-talking movie with an alien monster - based on the same book as The Thing (1982))
Silver Bullet (Stephen King novella based werewolf movie)
The Monster Squad (The Goonies versus old-school Universal monsters)
Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil (sardonically turns redneck horror on its ear)
Happy Death Day (Groundhog Day with a lot more death, but still funny, starring a mean girl in a sorority)
Happy Death Day 2U (Let's do it again, this time with more sci-fi)
Crawl (Category 5 Hurricane in Florida + alligators while in the crawl space under a house)
Freaky (Freaky Friday, only, you know, a teen girl switching bodies with the serial killer who tried to kill her)

This one is reasonably well-known, but Rec. is tight, intense, and scary as shit. (it's in Spanish with English subs, just fyi)

It Follows is basically a classic at this point, but just in case you've missed it.

Oculus is a little bit lesser known, I think, and a favorite of mine. Tons of similar narrative elements as Flanagan's later work, The Haunting Of Hill House, but in a much tighter package, and taken in a different direction.

If you're interested in an odd little indie horror/sci-fi psychological thriller, The Endless is fairly good.

And not really horror at all, but still Halloween appropriate, Only Lovers Left Alive is a funky little euro indie vampire movie with a superb cast and vibes for days.

Not so much horror horror as horror comedy but

Everyone on Earth should watch Wild Zero. It's a zombie movie starring the Japanese band Guitar Wolf (sort of) that's just... the wildest thing ever. If you've ever wanted to see a man have an existential crisis because he found out the girl he was flirting with is trans, only to be yelled at by a J-metal singer who appears out of nowhere like some kind of angelic force for being a wuss about both her and the general apocalypse going on... well, it's certainly a movie you could watch. That isn't even the most out of nowhere batshit thing that happens.
