I understand that 'unfortunately' part so well - though for me it isn't the fandom, exactly, it's just that the focus of my current case of brain worms is a secondary character that most of the fandom feels various degrees of hatred for *sigh*
I wouldn't touch the fandom if not for this one character, but reading one little fact about them set my brain on fire in March and I'm still waiting for the flames to die down. I ran out of fic and regular content suppliers months ago, whyyyyyyy? T_T

but reading one little fact about them set my brain on fire

Oh god do I know this feeling. It is the best and the worst. Dare I ask what it was?

In Final Fantasy VII, Reeve Tuesti controls Cait Sith with a magic ability called Inspire that lets him give life to inanimate objects - he isn't just controlling Cait from his desk like in-game RPG. He also has some kind of link to/control of the mako reactors. It was supposed to be in the original game but got cut for time, so you'd think it would just be a 'could have been' thing but they keep adding this fact to supplementary material like it's more a background detail for the character rather than a dropped plot point. I WANT MORE DETAILS like burning (how does this work?? How much of Cait Sith is AI, how much is Reeve...?!), but Cait Sith is a secondary character who most people simply call a traitor and hate, while Reeve Tuesti is a mere background character that most people barely remember and those who do call a coward. Since he isn't one of the big shipping triad or Sephiroth, I think the chances of getting juicy new material that fuels fanworks are pretty low T_T
