Anyone want to explain what is going on here? I guess I am out of the comicon loop.

Probably about this? https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/comic-con-2024-human-trafficking-operation-14-arrests-1235963596/

In significantly less awful news, I recall there was some rudeness on the part of the comcon about masking a couple of years ago, and there have been ongoing problems with long time comics vendors and artists being pushed out of the con.

I don’t think it’s about this. That is a few dozen little kids, all with SDCC badges. The sting only rescued one juvenile, a 16 year old.

AYRT: I hope so.

The headlines are misleading, that incident was not "at Comic-Con," it was "during Comic-Con." Like the article says, "sex traffickers capitalize on large-scale events such as Comic-Con to exploit their victims for profit." They brought victims to the area because the large number of people in the area for the con might give them more business. But like, it's not Comic-Con's fault that happened, that could and probably does happen at any huge event.

People all forget that last part.
It was "During" Comic-con, and none of the arrested people had badges for it.

Google reverse image search turned up this. Which isn’t ancient history but it isn’t exactly “recent,” either.

Found it!

The above link has the image but doesn’t really explain anything because the article focus was on something else. But I found this in his wiki article:

Lewis attended comics conventions to promote his graphic novel, most notably the San Diego Comic-Con, which he attended in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. During the 2015 convention, Lewis led, along with his graphic novel collaborators Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell, an impromptu simulated Selma civil rights march arm in arm with children, during which he wore the same clothes as he did on Bloody Sunday, garnering thousands of con goers to participate. The event became so popular it was repeated in 2016 and 2017.
