but you're writing m/m for yourself and other presumably straight women (just like lesbian porn is made for the consumption of straight men). it's not for gay men and if they don't like it, then they don't have to read it.

I am just really amused by this whole secret. Majestic dolphin, the horniness, the whole thing is just top tier amusement. But I also find the random unexpected strong attractions like this pretty funny in general. I felt like this about one actor in one specific scene and I was shocked by the stregth of my reaction. Like, really brain? Where did this even come from? Lol

I second this emotion.

And on Return of the King of my LOTR reread.

Right now, I'm reading Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach. I DNF'd The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them) by Lucy Jones.

I’m currently reading The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne. I’m halfway through and really enjoying it but also kinda reaching the point where it’s dragging. It’s three different POV characters and so far their stories haven’t even bumped each other.

I didn't finish Fuzz, I had heard such good things and had high hopes. Hopefully it works for you though!

Agreed.

Trying to imagine what a character looks like but need some visualization assistance. The character is described as male + impossibly pretty in an androgynous way + ~40 years old. I can imagine this at 20 easily and I'm blanking mentally on what that'd look like 20 years later. Anyone got characters or actor or model refs to look at? Ethnicity doesn't matter, just need basic ideas to kickstart my brain at this

Recently read and enjoyed: The Ministry of Time (Kaliane Bradley), A Botanical Daughter (Noah Medley) and Prophet Song (Paul Lynch) - though "enjoyed" is the wrong word for the last one! I read The Terror a few years ago so with The Ministry of Time it was very odd reading a different fictional take on the Franklin expedition. Of those three books Botanical Daughter was my favourite even though I was worried as I wasn't sure how I'd react to the plant horror aspect.

Hated: How to Sell A Haunted House (Grady Hendrix) because I thought it was going to be about an actual haunted house with the usual family-as-haunting metaphors and instead I got a really annoying and shit demonic/possessed puppet story. I love most horror but possessed doll is basically my least favourite subgenre and the blurb DIDN'T mention it at all that this is where the book is going.

Prince?

Oh that's actually a great one, thanks!

Also David Bowie, but he was more androgynous in his youth imo.

Today I saw a bunch of posts saying not to say “Wendigo,” and then a post saying (paraphrased) “I’m Algonquian, and I’m offended you think we’re all so superstitious we believe in Wendigos.” The people who say “don’t write about this thing” should only be listened to if they’re talking about stuff like blood libel.

Looking for a new show to watch!

I have access to netflix, hulu, and peacock tv. Prefer complete media. Either drama, comedy, and horror.

Not gonna lie, I feel like gay men who are upset over fanfiction should have bigger problems to worry about.

This reply is both hilarious and (to me, a female slash writer) oddly heartwarming. Thanks for sharing your very serious thoughts. <3

New Girl. Oretty sure it is on both Peacock and Hulu.
The comedy is really hit or miss with people and it takes a season to really get the characters down, but it is one of my shows I will rewatch when I need a pick me up. Some episodes just never stop being funny for me.

Also Brooklyn 99 for comedy. Same thing - took me a minute (I didnt like Jake at first) but it has some of my favorite comedic moments.

Honestly, the way Xenoblade's combat is described always put me off from it, but actually playing it isn't nearly as bad. (Minus the difficulty spike in X, but I still managed to squeak by...)

Tell me you've never read the books...

Rivendell isn't a rotating door of hosting guests. They can go literal decades without anyone new showing up. The brief window of months before the Council of Elrond is a literal anomaly based on a bunch of random prophecies and escalation of Sauron's plans coalescing simultaneuosly; most of the time Rivendell is as Frodo describes, a place where you can forget the passage of time entirely as the residents just don't care whether you live there or not. They don't have celebratory banquets every night. Fans desire to visit Rivendell because it's all the benefit of visiting a friend, none of the drawbacks of being in hotel services.
