I hate this trend of actual history being "woke"

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
tbf right now all it'd take is like

"woman: exists" to have gamer babies crying about it

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Woman or non-white man basically. It is sad and pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Not even gamer babies, all you need is a story to be about a woman or for one to be competent at one thing and that’s apparently ‘woke nonsense’ because we’re all too stupid to do anything I guess and certainly aren’t allowed media focused on women.

The trend was set when reality started having a well-known liberal bias.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, that liberal bias.

Also known as 'straight white men throwing daily tantrums because every single piece of media is no longer all about them and only them'.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that Google sucks now, but come on.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Reality can't have a bias (right wing or liberal).

You might live in an oppressive or liberal society, but reality just IS.

That reference went right over your head, didn't it.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It did, yes. It didn't sound like a reference to me, but a genuine comment you'd find on anything related to politics these days.

From the looks of it, I'm not the only one unfamiliar with this reference. What's it from?

Thanks for the link! I've never seen any of the WH correspondence dinners, so that was fun.

Even with the context I still don't think it was a terribly good reference though. The set up was a bit too far removed from Colbert and without tone, the irony of the statement was lost. I think I would have opted for a more exaggerated tone to help signal that this is a reference. I mean, that was Bush, right? A reference to something that was said at least 16 years ago in a not particularly mainstream context and a context that has nothing to do with the situation at hand is gonna be risky.

"Actual history" in an Assassin's Creed game is pretty funny though.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They're famously historically accurate, aside from the typical liberties for the story line...? They even have tours in the game to show off their research....???

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
... the geography, maybe. The actual historical facts are pretty hit and miss, depending on the game. It's not Dan Brown levels of inaccurate but damn do they take plenty of liberties.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The geography, the cities, the architecture, the technology, the social structure, the food, the drink, the clothes, the buildings locations, the major historical figures, the international relations (if applicable), the art, the animals, the festivals the roads.... aside from all that, what have the romans ever done for us???

(Anonymous) 2024-10-05 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Half of what you said is just "geography" again, only in more words. And the historical figures... yeah no. Yasuke is actually a great example for it, but also all of the Borgia plot etc. Not to mention that yes, actually, pretending that everything behind those historical events was a big ass Templar conspiracy and to top it off aliens is pretty out there.
The research for geopolitical issues is fairly solid. The research for people and what they do with it... less so.
