I am a dinosaur. I remember the message board days. And I made some good friends that way, most of who have moved on from the fandom I'm in. I even met a couple of them at fandom events and one I met at a cafe to do campaign stuff to keep an actor on a show we really liked. It didn't work but it was a great experience. There is nothing equivalent anymore and I'll be honest, it's f**king lonely out there especially if you're in a dwindling fandom.
