This pretty much. Given it was common practice back in the time her movie took place I can guarantee whoever ended up with her would have had to force it. The fact that they even changed the old men being the suitors to them having sons her age makes it squirmy.

(I am a Merida stan I will die on the hill that she was well within her rights to protest the marriage. But the time frame of the movie...)

Nah, it's a kids' movie, not real life. In-universe nothing would happen on her wedding night, and in the future babies would magically appear and everyone would make the correct assumption that the stork brought them.

This feels like knowingly missing the point of the secret to be a smartass.

Have you somehow hacked into my discord logs where I privately RP that Merida marries MacIntosh but he's abusive so Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon saves her from a horrible marriage?????

Taking Disney movies too seriously.

And she was a brat. The whole point was she was a brat and the mom was too harsh, neither of them having empathy for the other. Then through the magic of Disney they grow and learn and change and everyone gets a happy ending.

IMO Fandom exists so that fans can have discussions outside of authorial intent on topics they want to discuss. Using the source material to discuss real issues/situations is a safe way to figure the world out and figure one's own worldview/other people's worldview.

I personally find not engaging with a piece of media outside of authorial intent is limiting and quickly turns boring.

It was still common/normalized to force people (often girls/women) into marriage when I was growing up in my community, so yeah, I agree 100% with this secret.
