As someone from the UK, I agree with this so much.
I also hate the original UK version because every show covering British comedy kept showing that stupid clip of Ricky Gervais dancing and saying how hilarious that show was.

I just hate Ricky Gervais and everything he's associated with.

Good. Gervais is just one of the most unfunny people on the planet.

I don't think this is a particularly unpopular opinion.

Same, I thought it was the standard!

DA/Not OP

I'm used to a lot of people, even people who worked on the US version, say verbatim, "The Office UK is leagues funnier than The Office US."
Because Americans are more sincere so the softening of Michael Scott to be a well meaning idiot was needed whereas the UK version can simply laugh that David Brent is indeed a self-loving unaware egotistical idiot.

And while I do believe that I've worked for more managers like David Brent than Michael Scott, I personally like The Office US more. I think the US version is just more fun and entertaining to watch. I also was way more invested in Jim and Pam than Tim and Dawn via the "will they/won't they" aspect of their relationships

Yeah, although I didn't finish the U.S. office, UK office is better all around IMO!

And yeah, although it's way lower stakes and minor, some of Tim/Jim's treatment of Gareth/Dwight seems to come from the same place as internet lolcow bullying and it's not great!
