What media did you never get the hype over?

Naruto, the Good Place, the Office, most Netflix shows, most post-2010s anime/manga.

Naruto would've been a lot better without the filler. Or maybe it just dragged on so long it felt like filler.

Breaking Bad. Awkward-anniversary-handjob almost got me to nope out, but I made it a couple more episodes before deciding it wasn't for me.

I never liked that show.

Breaking Bad is one of those shows where I admire the writing and the acting very much, but I can't stomach watching it. It's just... too upsetting, seeing people be awful and do awful things. I was in the middle of a really bad depressive state when I first tried it, and even though I'm feeling better, it's not something I can go back to.

The Sopranos. My sister has tried to get me to watch it so many times and I'm just not into it.

Friends, Lost, Game of Thrones

Genshin Impact. The characters are all overdesigned in the exact same way, the open world is novel for a gacha but not all that special for a regular video game (and I've seen so many people respond to complaints about it being awkward to play on mobile with 'I play on my PC' so it may as well be a 'regular' video game), it's no less predatory than any other gacha and the story is fine but layered with lots of impenetrable bullshit that's a chore to read. The characters themselves are largely undercooked, cliche and don't get near the development I would expect for the way people gush over it. I don't get why it's so overwhelmingly popular when it's so incredibly mid.

I like it but I don't think it's a great game. As most reviews say that it's a good, solid (gacha) AAA game with all the usual flaws and problematic content and mechanincs of the genre but I find it better executed than all the other ones I've tried. I think many chara designs are awful but a lot of people like them and there are some I like too. There are too many characters for them to be deep anyway so I don't think anyone expects that. At least I don't. I'd say that the universe they've imagined is intriguing and I like most stories if you skip the usual techno-fantasy jargon that can be found elsewhere too. What I really like about it is exploring the world because I think it's gorgeous (and I disagree that we get true open worlds in many AAA games or BTOW wouldn't have the impact it's had and GI wouldn't have copied it), just wandering around looking for puzzles to solve, chests to open, small quests to complete, different team compos to try out, etc. Again not that different from many other games in this genre. The OST is great too. You see players with different backgrounds and goals too. Some are there for collection, some are there for the characters, some are there for the lore, some are there for the harder challenges and fine-tuning their teams,... You've got your experienced gacha players but you've also got players who had never played C/JRPG-like games before and who got attracted to the anime-style of GI and for whom the game is very accessible, another reason why it's popular.

Friends. The Office. Breaking Bad. Sopranos. Anything that stars mafia/criminals/generally terrible people.

I find the British Office so much funnier than the American one and I'm American.

Home Alone.

The Fallout games. I've tried multiple times over the years. I grew up on Morrowind and was obsessed with Skyrim. I really loved the TV show and I sit in on lore videos/deep dives on Youtube when my partner watches them, so I guess I appreciate the worldbuilding, but I just find them so achingly dull to play.

Reality shows. I do not care about The Bachelor or dancing shows or Idol or the Kardashians or those Magnolia Home people or rich realtors or Survivor. Everything I've learned about these shows has been against my will.

The only reality shows I like are the food-oriented ones.

The women on the Bachelor and shows like that always look like they came out of the photo copier.

The Good Place, Friends, Mean Girls (this one's personal tho), Game of Thrones, The Adventure Zone post Balance arc, The Magnus Archives, honestly a lot of storytelling podcasts that catch on just don't quite vibe with me.

I'm super picky with art styles in anime/video games, so a lot of things I won't get the hype over if I just don't like/can't get over the art style. JJBA, Naruto, One Piece, Arcane/LoL are great examples of this.

I was just thinking about Mean Girls yesterday. It sort of falls apart for me after Regina gets hit by the bus, but I can't really put my finger on 'why,' like what specifically about the last act doesn't work for me.

Demon Slayer. All my friends love it, but I just couldn't get into it.

Doctor Who from Capaldi onwards. It seemed like the show gave up on storytelling, and with the trans timelord shit became more about the political posturing rather than giving decent and engaging television. It is all about trying to look cool and down wit da youths, and that comes off even worse. It is inauthentic to the show's identity.
