Movies

We had "Of all time" yesterday, so lets do a different theme today:

That thing where they take an old TV show, and make a modern action movie out of it. What's your favourite example.

I gotta be honest, I didn't dig on Starsky and Hutch, but I've loved just about all of the rest of them.

Huh, I wasn't really considering Addams Family, but it totally counts. I suppose I'm more thinking of movie /revivals/ of shows, Like I wouldn't count Serenity / Firefly. More like the Sam Jacksons Shaft, The Johnny Knoxville Dukes, Or the Liam Neeson A-Team.

But yeah, Addams family totally counts as a revival of the old 60's TV show.

Star Trek movies. Original series movies totally count as they were revivals of a cancelled show.

The Naked Gun movies. Great but shortlived tv show, Police Squad!, turned into really fun movies.

For the other direction with tv shows out of movies, 21 Monkeys is a great movie and a lot better than the movie it was based on.

Oooo yeah, I was super shocked at how much I loved 21 Jump Street and impressed that 22 Jump Street elevated everything.

Oh man, there have been some HUGE misses here (I think, hands down, The Avengers (1998) was the worst, but Lost in Space (1998) and Wild Wild West (1999) were pretty bad, and Bewitched (2005) annoyed the hell out of me). That said, there have been some decent ones, like Mission: Impossible (1996) and Charlie's Angels (2000). And I really enjoyed Star Trek (2009), but the best of the best for me is The Fugitive (1993).

I couldn't get away with Bewitched myself, but I gotta admit, I loved all of the other ones you mentioned, good and bad.

Yeah Bewitched did not work at all for me, but I have to admit I have always somehwat secretly enjoyed the heck out of '98 Lost in Space.
