specific Witcher trope

(Anonymous) 2024-11-21 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any Warlord!Geralt fic that are not total AUs? So like Jaskier is still Jaskier from the show and they still have that history, but then splits off into all the Warlord!AU fandom tropes you know and love.

What's for dinner/meal of choice?

I am having a painful reaction to food which the only "cure" for is fasting for the next 12-24hrs. Please let me live vicariously through you all.

Ramen. I use instant and make it in the wok on the stove, then drain water, add a splash of sesame oil and a drizzle of soy sauce. Then I mix in some scallions, chopped kale, and red bell peppers.

Family gripes

(Anonymous) 2024-11-21 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some things that bother you about some family members? Big, small, petty, severe. Thanksgiving coming up, it's gonna be a trying time for a lot of people.

Re: Family gripes

(Anonymous) 2024-11-21 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, this reply will be a downer.

When family members keep a terrible family system going. When they don't protect their most vulnerable. When they supposedly want to catch up with you but don't really want to know you as a person or really check in with you.

On the flip side, I'm sure people would say about me that I am cut-off happy or something. Which I guess isn't inaccurate, given that I only speak to one blood relative these days.

For me it's currently my dad. He's turning more and more into the stereotypical image of the old white boomer husband who is lazy but self-righteous to the max. The only thing that doesn't fit is his political views - small favours but hey, at least he's not a bigot, that's worth a lot.
But damn it's annoying. Especially because he keeps insisting that he does SO much! When he's really, really not. He keeps all out lying anout it too (small things like insisting he very often sets the table for breakfast or takes out the trash when he hasn't done either in months) though I actually think he partly believes his own lies. Same thing with his hearing loss - he's definitely hard of hearing (and doesn't listen) but he will not admit it. And it's causing all sorts of issues. The list goes on but man, these are definitely in the top three of annoying things he does.

TW: Pet Illness

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
My dad is a “it’s just a dog” kinda guy. I’m overdue getting in touch with him because I fear I will lose control when he inevitably says all the shittiest possible things about my sick dog. Baxter is probably terminal and we won’t know for weeks and we’re arranging oncology appointments, physical therapy if he has a chance to make it, hospice care and in home euthanasia if he doesn’t. The stress is unreal and inside I’m broken into a zillion tiny pieces because he’s my baby.

Re: Family gripes

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
This is petty and trivial, but I hate how hard it is to have a conversation with my dad about ANYTHING without him treating it like it's his problem to solve and here's a dozen dumb suggestions that won't work because he has no clue what he's talking about. I have to be careful about how I phrase my conversation and keep things very superficial and shallow because he'll seize upon anything and immediately begin lecturing me on how to handle this or that. For the record, I am NOT complaining about my problems. I can't, because he'll launch into mansplainer mode. It'll be like:

Dad: Didn't you buy a pair of pants off Amazon?
Me: Yeah, but I returned them because they didn't fit.
Dad: Well you should lose some weight and that will help [eats another fistful of chips from a bag that's resting on his protuberant gut] in fact I saw a commercial that said the local gym was discounting memberships for the holidays, you should buy a membership. But when you go to the gym you should use X and Y machines only, not Z because I read a health article that says Z machines can strain your back and blah blah blah blah and be sure to blah blah blah blah

His other annoying habit is that he's getting older, and his world is shrinking. That's just life, right? New stuff happens, changes occur, you no longer have your finger on the pulse of technology. To my dad, anything he hasn't heard of is suspicious in some way. Either it can't possibly exist, can't possibly work, is wrong somehow, you're mistaken, etc. because if it was real and legit, he would know about it. No he fucking wouldn't. This man doesn't keep up with anything outside of a very small circle of interests, but acts like he knows everything and what he doesn't know is sus. So you'd better stick to the 2-3 topics he's comfortable with if you don't want to be interrogated about whatever it you're trying to talk about.

As I mentioned yesterday, my sister is a high energy, type A person. And she simply doesn't understand that not everyone is capable of that. She really doesn't get chronic illness and general medical issues. She's the type who will force herself to work even when sick unless she's absolutely not capable of it.

She also takes everything personally too. And just is a bit of a "main character" type of person who isn't willing to consider other POVs.

Then there are my aunt and uncle, who are Trump voters, very libertarian. Especially my uncle who loves to start arguments.

I found out yesterday I have fibroids and my dad's been apologising for being so hard on me before we knew.

Like, it's nice that he's realised but he also doesn't like to talk about female reproduction things.

My parents are divorced but my father is still in our lives. He's middle class but we're all lower class and work with varying and schedules. Predictably, my father is a racist Trump supporter and have been gloating about how things will get better economically next year, even though we're already scraping by with groceries and infastructure issues with our house that we can't afford to fix. It's very frustrating.

Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 12:17 am (UTC)(link)

Movies

[personal profile] thewakokid 2024-11-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
We had "Of all time" yesterday, so lets do a different theme today:

That thing where they take an old TV show, and make a modern action movie out of it. What's your favourite example.

I gotta be honest, I didn't dig on Starsky and Hutch, but I've loved just about all of the rest of them.
