I was about to say! The only big series that still are turn-based would be Fire Emblem, Trails, and Persona.

Even then with Kuro no Kiseki, Trails is leaning into action based gameplay as well. Not quite as much as Ys, but you can see the influence. I love gaming turn orders, stacking attacks, etc. and just don't see the appeal of action-centric RPG combat.

The plot thing I'll agree with. I can do any plot regardless of how tropey it is, as long as its earnest and executed well. But so many big name JRPGs now feel and play the exact same that I've started playing games either by smaller studios or just straight up looking at 15-20 year old JRPGs instead to get the experience I want.

And Pokémon! ... Pokémon's a JRPG, right? It's J, it's RPG - I'm reasonably sure there's more to it than that, but I never did work out what it was.
