You could use a machine translator or learn a little Chinese to experience some of it. Some of the fandoms/ships I write for are way more popular outside the anglosphere and a lot of readers of mine are ESL, but they manage; no reason it can't be a two-way street. (One fic in particular is crazy popular with Russians, for some reason?) (Also yeaaaaaah many of the DMC artists from China/Japan are incredible, I know what you mean.)

Well, we outside of anglosphere do tend to know enough English to read decently at least.

But yeah, Google translating fics can be fun.

True! While we inside it tend to get a very half-assed second language education, if any. But that's why I said anon could learn some Chinese: I learned a ton of Japanese to read both original and fanworks because that's where the action was at for a bunch of my fandoms. And when you can cross the language barrier you can make more friends!

Besides which, OP: Chinese could be a very marketable skill, too.

Yeah, learning languages is fun, I agree. And fandom makes it more engaging.
(I really dislike Mandarin though)
