On top of that, even if you conceded that the job of denying healthcare (in the US it's a for-profit industry) was a necessary evil, his company had the highest denial rate of all the ones that were out there (twice industry average)-- and oh, they were starting to farm the job out to AIs... and we know how wise and reliable THOSE are.

There was also the insider trading which was going to be investigated by Congress and the loss of a significant amount of the company's money to ransomware. How much of a factor those might have been in a motivation remains to be seen.

the shell casings had "deny, defend, depose" on them, that's not fucking insider trading assassination.

That's why I said "remains to be seen".

That said, I thought I should still give sources for the other news to the anon I responded to, now that I was away from the computer for a bit.

Insider trading: https://www.yahoo.com/news/slain-unitedhealthcare-ceo-accused-insider-164213460.html

AI: https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/unitedhealthcare-accused-relying-ai-algorithms-deny-medicare-advantage-claims

Claim denial rate seems to be more fuzzy; apparently companies were not being compelled to disclose denial rates, and several companies' rates have gone up in the last couple years. Whether United Healthcare was worse than others is up in the air but they certainly weren't among the lower-ranked ones.

Oh, and let's not forget the ransomware: https://www.healthcaredive.com/news/unitedhealths-cyberattack-response-costs-to-surpass-23b-this-year/721431/

So there's a few other potential motives out there, and it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to claim a outsider's political motivation for a self-serving purpose (though most of those cases are so inept as to be quickly debunked).

Really, at this point the shooter's profile could pretty much be described as "human, with a pulse."
