Same. I was excited to watch it because more Mononoke, but it was just... Ok? I wanted to like it but left confused about the plot. Had to rewatch it to really understand it (the girl having to let go of her friend because it was getting in the way of her work) but then what did that had to do with the Mononoke? It was like watching two different plots that whee barely connected to each other.

That said I hope they make more Mononoke anime because the original series is so good. But I hope they clean it up to make a bit more sense.

That was one of my main issues (aside from the style) as well. It didn't help that the Netflix subs were kind of hard to read in their default setting and all the too-bright colours really messed with my eyes so I missed a lot of info because I didn't read all the subs, which isn't usually something I have issues with. I had to read up on some things afterwards (because I didn't want to get another migraine by watching it again) which had never happened with the original series. It felt a lot of the plot wasn't vague to keep up the mystery of the mononoke like in the original but rather to be vague for vagueness' sake to appear smarter/deeper.
